Dichroic glass question

I was thinking of purchasing some dichroic glass from a distrubutor for a project. It's sold for fusing but I don't have a kiln. Can you tell me if the surface is easily scratched? Does it need to be laminated/fused with clear glass to protect it?

Thanks

yes, it does scratch easily before it's fired. you'll want to cover it with something, depending upon the project. it is harder but still scratches if it's fired and the dichro face is up in your project.

Ok thanks for that. Will have a rethink.

Perhaps there is kiln time for rent in your area.

you can also 'plate' it, and lay a layer of clear or.... on top before incorporating. Other problems can exist but it's a convenient way of alleviating scratching. thing is, dichroic changes appearance after firing so also depends on what look you are going for. m
