Flashed Glass

Anybody know who handles Flashed Glass? Specifically I'm interested in getting a white opal with a flashed cobalt blue top surface, for doing a sandblasted item. Never done it before, but I can't resist the possibility of an order for 2500! Any comments welcomed.

Have you considered fusing your own? You could fuse 2mm blue to 3mm white. I haven't tried it yet, but I've wondered, if you stacked 9mm white with a 2mm blue over it and full fuse soaked, would it spread out thinning the blue to a fraction of it's original thickness?

Any big SG wholesaler carries some. Most retailers don't. I have some, mostly inherited over the years. Who do you buy from now?

Interesting. Almost every kiln I'm aware of is for rent. You've asked to rent kiln space and been turned down?

Not significantly - getting an even sheet would be a problem - it would spread out just flat. You would have to arrange to stretch it hot.

Mostly Spectrum - some Wissmach and now Armstrong.

You don't buy from them. Who do you buy your glass from?

For the Spectrum and Wissmach - either Delphi or Glass Crafters - but anyone can buy from the 'new' Armstrong - even hobbyists. Hal

Have you tried to get your flashed glass from your regular suppliers? (Say hello to big Jim for me at GC.... we go back 20 years).

And Lamberts glass is simply deliscious....;-)

Harold, be aware that different flashed glasses have different thicknesses of 'flash' on them. Some are quite thick, and multi-layered. This equates to longer or shorter periods of sandblasting, and thicker or thinner masking requirements ... more or less work, and greater or lesser success. Select your choice of glass with these factors in mind, or learn the hard way (especially at a quantity of 2500)!!!.

Regards, Jacques Bordeleau

As always, I can count on Jacques and Michele to give me a straight answer. Thanks guys!!!

To Michele: Would be glad to entertain your information so that I can put together a quote soon for my prospective customer.

To Sundog: Thanks again for the comments regarding different types of flashed glass. My only info was that flashed glass is usually quite hard to cut without creating scrap. Annealing blown glass kind of takes some of the risk away.

To Robert Christ: Thanks for the links to Lambert. Very good selection, information and a good web site. May contact you again in the future.
