fusing novice question (firing schedule)

Actually, the brand of glass makes more difference than the COE. By tack fuse, you presumably mean that you want the frit to stand up on the base glass. The exact temp will depend on the fusing and melting points of the glass. And then you will have to watch and crash cool when it looks the way you want.

I'm so glad you said that! Got far too impatient and had a go anyway. When I opened the kiln to vent it, all was looking just like I wanted it! (how lucky, I used a schedule in the book for a small piece but with 2 layers) I'm using bullseye COE90 glass. Well fingers crossed that it all looks lovely in the morning when the kiln is cool. ( had a few controller problems during firing too so I'll have no clue which caused the problem anyway) Well I though I'd wait to see how it turned out before posting and I'm not too happy with them. They came out very spiky (is that because I used one layer? As I said tho the kiln threw a wobbly on me. After I vented it, was supposed to ramp down to 593 but instead it kept getting hotter. I had to stop the program and start it again. (I double checked that I'd programmed it correctly and as far as I could see I had!) Well, I'm going to have another go today and see what happens! It's so exciting this fusing lark! :o) Bonnie
