The general impression given in the books I have read is that the various gums - arabic, traganth, and ? - all burn out cleanly. I have used arabic for holding some fused items and for making sulphides. I would expect it to burn out about 500F, being organic, but I don't know.

i used gum arabic for my copper enameling back in the 70s and have been attempting to re-experiment with it. it does burn off cleanly but not sure if trapped gases might be a problem in glass applications???? m

I have used it for a binder when painting with glass. It has not left anything at all. I did wait until it was completely dry before I fired. I have also used white vinegar which also is a binder and it did not leave anything behind that I could detect.

I went to web site that had a lot of info on gums, shared what I said below, and asked it they could give more info. The reply was that 500F was a good estimate and most gums leave about 3% ash. Given this low temperature and this small ash, I would expect no gas problems at all at

1200-1300F when glass sags and starts trapping air and other gases under it.
