Home shopping stuff

I am still amazed at the stuff I see them selling on TV. Tiffany style lamps with hundreds of pieces under $99 bucks! Little SG houses for $39.... now I'm seeing very intricate panels sold in stores for next to nothing. Of course the quality is crap, but most people don't know the difference. Now we know what it's like to be one of those neighborhood mom and pop shops put out of business by Wal-mart.

A couple of weeks ago I got a call from some woman who had bought, deliberately, a broken SG panel from Tuesday Morning. She wanted me to repair it.

I told her repairs start at $100 for the first hour on the workbench.

"Why, that's rediculous! I only paid $13 for the whole thing!"

HERE HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!\ \ My sentiments EXACTLY......."big spenders" bring imported lamps to me for a QUOTE on fixing them...... Of course, my price is way out of range....... Suggest they go back to where they bought/got it and get it fixed there.

This seems to be the ONLY LEVERAGE a real craftsman still has. I have repair glass set aside for MY SHADES, filed by the shade number and will gladly repair one of mine, and even at a very low rate (but not usually) if the story is good. Insurance paid claims go at the full repair rate...... As an aside I had a client contact me about fixing one of mine, and he offered to LET me fix it and THEN submit the bill to (he could not remember the insurance company name)....It sure made for a good laugh!~

Like I always say, that stuff reeks of the sweat of tiny imprisoned Chinese orphan girls.

"Little Ping had produced hundreds of stained glass panels by the time she was eight..."

Sorry, just my mental image. Whoever is making those isn't being paid a living wage even by their standards, I can bet that much.
