kiln repair

Hi all, I'm have replaced the elements in my old Aim kiln. I need some help with the electrical part. First the elements did not heat up so I messed the washer placement on one set and blew the circuit breaker.

First, I have black wires and white wires. Does one end of the element go on the white and the other end go on the black? (It has 2 sets of elements). Second, does the lead wire go in between washers or next to the bare element wire. My husband had to get that apart for me so I didn't see how it was stacked with the 3 washers. Good news is I think the controller may still work despite sparks flying out of it.

Thanks, Connie

Connie, ? Ever consider sending a note or calling AIM to know how they built it? The controller generally runs on 110, the elements are 220, depending on model . But if you call, I bet they tell you how they built them, just a thought though, most of it is common sense,

Take Java's advice and call AIM customer service. maybe they can email you the wiring diagram.

Washer, wire, washer, wire, washer.

Is yer fire extinguisher handy and the premiums paid on the insurance? He, he.

If you have to ask how to connect you have better to leave it to an electrician.

220 V is lethal when misconnected. A power pulse does not make your controller happy.

Your safety is worth more than the bill from an electrician

Yeah. And be sure to tell them you are pals with Dennis Brady. That ought to get you right to the top of the list.

OK, the controller is a stand alone, not part of the kiln, so maybe I'll take that out of the loop first. The wiring to the infinite switch looked pretty simple, but apparently not simple enough for me. I'll see if I can call AIM on Saturday, though it is pretty close to XMAS. Thanks,

With a stand alone controller I would bypass the infinite switch as long as you're messing with the wiring.
