Light shaping borosilicate tube with air/acetylene torch

I was wondering if it would be possible to do some light shaping of borosilicate tube with an air/acetylene torch? The type of work I would like to do it take a length of tube and enlarge or constrict the opening and do some light bending say no more than 30 degrees. Would this be possible? As I would be experimenting I do not want to purchase equiptment costing hundreds of dollars.

Thanks Matt

You should have few problems with this although acetylene causes problems with some colors. Most people don't have air/acet torches. What you describe can be done - slowly - with a braising torch with tubing up to about 3/8" with thin walls.

Matt- It sounds like you need propane in your mix. Get a propane tip for your torch (Victor), a cheap bbq regulator, and some type T tubing, and you're set. Regards, D
