need a few ideas (not guesses)

I just took a commission to rebuild a large 8 (about 20" diameter) bent panel shade (bent TWO WAYS). The old cage is GONE, shot, un-usable and so on. This is a GENUINE ANTIQUE, signed RAINAUD. I have been custom fitting each panel to its neighbor panel, to be copper foiled and soldered. The original bending is short on the bottom corners (had a wide cage to hide the shorts in), and I planning to put in a piece of glass or an oval jewel to hide the gap. Next is to put about a 1 to 1.5 inch band staggered (so the lead lines to not meet at the panel corners) around the bottom of the panels (support and to hold it together) The top is not yet set for a ring and wheel, but with some careful grinding of the top, I can get a ring to fit.

from there a design for the bottom after the band, yet to be finalized is planned. The budget is generous for me to take this commission. The base is valuable enough for me to want to do it. ============================================================= anyone see any major flaws, or a glaring mistake(s) in my intended procedures?

All I can say is that your "genuine antique" will not be worth much after you reinvent the shade. Make sure your customer is aware of this.

Do you have any photos of the WIP?

it is UPON my customer's insistence that I do it the way she wants I did try to dissuade her from my "bastardizing it............

ALTHOUGH perhaps in another 100 or so years, the shade will be known as an "H. Rubin" and may also be valuable as a collectible... Laugh as you may, but some of my older shades (20 years) have sold at an auction (local) for much more than the original client (gallery term) bought them for.
