Need Advice on Business

There is a very real possibility that the only local glass supplier in my small town will be closing soon. I was offered the opportunity to take over the shop, but I really know nothing about running a store or what even to offer the owner for the store and contents. It sells retail works as well as supplies and seems to be able to cover it's own expenses plus a little profit. Any advice on how to proceed would be appreciated.

A while back, maybe 12-18 months ago, there was a long thread on this group about purchasing an on-going SG store. There were a lot of pros and cons. You probably could learn a lot from that thread.

Try googling.

Talk to your local Small Business Association. They can help you find out what the business is really worth and also help you learn how to run a small business. Running your own business that includes a storefront is a lot of work but can be very rewarding. I've been doing for many years.

There's nothing like being your own boss and owning your own successful business. That said, something like 98% of new businesses fold after 1 or 2 years. This was bad enough in the old mom and pop days, but now that everyone is buying from the internet, the odds are really against you to make a go of it. I'll be selling my shop soon.... hope to find someone that has lots of experience that may be interested.
