old glass bottles pieces

If anyone can help I would sure appecieite it. I have reacently started working with old peices of glass. cutting and shapping into jewelry having a hard time with finding the right high speed cutter, stress fractures, kepping the glasss cool, ect. Also sanding, and making it shine. Can I paint the clear glass. I have no kilm , just a small torch to heat or melt. Any advice would help. Thanks Daniel

You need a glass cutter. Not sure what you mean by "hi speed" unless you are using a dremel to cut the glass. You might also consider getting a glass grinder...any stained galss shop will have the cutter and the grinder. As for using the torch...if the peices aren't very large you can anneal them in 3/4" fiber blanket (also availabe at a stained glass shop) or you can try using vermiculite on a hot plate. Heated glass must cool very slowly or else it will crack. There are paints for glass that can be applied and then the glass can be put in the oven. peebo is one brand. It is not a permanent bond. For something permanent, you need actual glass paint and then the glass is fired in a kiln.
