Opinions

I am making a glass craft that I think would catch on great but I need opinions. I made a website advertising what I am making.

Please take a look and give me your thoughts. Thanks

I'd prefer to call it "critically honest".

Personally I doubt you'll see significant sales for what is basically a gimmick idea. As a marketable product, I'd consider it short-life dead-end. Doubt it would take more than 15 minutes to learn how to make a lamp from a glass block. If it turns out these actually do sell, within weeks you'll have thousands of glass crafters selling them at every little craft show in America.

Anything too easy to copy will be copied.

This was tried in some loft renovation ideas in the late 80's in NY with the blocks still in the wall. It never did catch on. I even saw a few with candles in them using a drilled access hole.

Hardly an orginal idea.

Let me tell you up front that I prefer a clean design look. I'm afraid this glass craft doesn't grab my interest.

From the photos, the ribbon is the most prominent aspect. I know that's the way you want to sell the seasonal theme, but it seems to get in the way of seeing the glass object. Going the craft route, maybe get rid of the ribbon and finding a way to apply a decorative coloured glass design to the front and back. Then find a stand so the illuminated block can be viewed from both sides.

I would have taken this product a different way with emphasizing the rectilinear glass shape(s) with glass etched Art Deco imagery and brushed nickel. Maybe make a Deco style wall or ceiling-hung constellation of illuminated glass blocks held together with brushed nickel tubing (that might appeal to someone living in a loft). But then it wouldn't sell for $20! Good luck with your endeavors.

It was hardly original in the 80's. Lighting of glass block is as old as glass block.
