Re: Please help identify

If they were bigger, my grandma would have used them as a pie or cake cover. These look like cheese plate covers, or maybe petri dish covers.

Can anyone identify what these are? We found them in my family's attic in > the case thats behind them. There are 6 glasses in all. Is there any value > to them? > > Thanks > > Tom > > >

Like passing gas in church..Not illegal, as this is an unmoderated group...but, certainly kind of annoying and tacky if done too often. There are a number of binary groups that exist for images, and, of course, since most folks have some webspace available to them, the pictures can be posted to their site, and, a link posted here. I use newsgroups infrequently but when I do, I usually get a response ot two that comments on etiquette of some sort (etiquette and the internet are an oxymoron).

Really, I am just interested in what these glasses are, they seem very novel, though they may be nothing. JK, I appreciate your response, at least you're giving your best shot.

Thanks

Tom

Glass domes with handles?

Doesn't change the obvious, still glass domes with handles

Nope, none for an Oxy Moron, thow them out.

Does that do anything for the etiquette? Usenet less frequently, and only when YOU want something.

So why the different sizes? Almost all can sit upright because they have a flatbase , though very small, the largest one 's base is more round and cannot----by the way, what does cheese have to do with them? If this is turning into "ad naseum", anyone know of an individual I can send the picture to?

Though your response is obtuse, who cares, and parsing sentences is a useless excercise--and I am usnure of the handles part except they have a stem, so what the heck are they? I mentioned the attic part to imply that I think they are old ie prior to 1930. I don't really know though---so just help with the solution why don't ya?

Uhhhh.... How many times must you be told this? They are food covers, made to fit over the top of a small plate, usually holding cheese or the like.

I'm thinking '40s drugstore candy dish covers.

It looks like something I might have seen on 'its a wonderful life.'

Basically the same guess as moonraker.

Any mark>If they were bigger, my grandma would have used them as a pie or cake cover.

Different sizes just by chance, because they come from different manufacturers. The two I have are different sizes and shapes from each other, and came with small wooden dishes with a groove the edge that the glass sits is... and a little cheese knife. If I went out today to buy another, it would likely be yet another size. Any more questions?

WHY? You have already been told too many times and your not getting the answer you want...

OK, they are extremely rare sexual devices with an ancient use by people with millions of dollars that will pay millions for them. Is that more to your liking? Get out there and auction them off, put a really high reserve on them and then when someone tells you they are cheap cheese dish covers you act surprised.

As I will be if they sell..

This newsgroup is about working with glass - stained glass, fusing etc... We don't collect manufactured glass. So our guessing is as good as yours. You made need to find a glass collectors book to find out for sure what they are.

Here.... check eBay. I did.... Your cheese plates are being listed for $5 and selling for 50 cents. If still you can't understand that, then your middle name must be 'Dubya'!!!!!

Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah

No... I won't paste the link for my search.... learning to search eBay is YOUR job.
