Soda glass will have a coefficient of expansion like 90-96-103 Boro would have about 30. You either have the numbers wrong or ...

and if you move the decimal point?? kinda makes it 9,0 or 9,6 (by European terminology. ) the actual number has additional numbers attached x 10 (minus7) in our case , 96 x 10 (minus7) and I'm not sure here, x 10 (minus8 or 6) to move the decimal point over, but it is the same number.... Potters use the 9.0 alot instead of 90.

You'd thought a person using the odd system would know what is used by the majority of the people on the newsgroup. Besides, those other choices are covered by the "or ..." A quick Google of glazes and expansions seems to indicate that they use any numbers from .33 to 330 with various exponents and glazes seem to calc out to about 7 x 10^-6 or there abouts.

Out of curiousity, do you have to suck a partial vacuum on these things? 8 mm is about 1/3 inch, which would seem the right size for the stem, but the bulbs are 60-80 mm, ten times as big - so do you blow the tubing out to that big? Obviously, once the bulb is big, it has to be opened if closed, the whirly installed, and then closed, vacuumed if necessary, sealed and decorated on top. Right? In fact, as logic dictates and the ones with colored globes make clear, the wire that supports the whirly blocks the stem, so the bulb is blown separately, opened, the whirly inserted, and the bulb necked down and fitted to the stem, then evacuated through the blow tubing.

I think it's just the Javahut/Moonraker b-team trying to prevent anyone (especially hot glass folks, extra especially you) from posting on this NG. They're mostly successful; I was shocked, stunned and amazed when I saw that there were 9 posts this morning. Fabulous!

Need to work on your self esteem, not everyone is picking on anyone, it was a simple math problem and a difference in how it is written.

I wouldn't want to prevent anyone form doing anything, I actually fought for YOUR right to be free, and I am proud of it.

I really enjoy the newsgroup and differing opinions, and I have no idea where you get the statement you made about hot glass people.

I am a glass blower also, and on the occasions when I have time I have a very nice and comfortable torch set up that I like to play with also. I just make my living with flat glass, that's all.

Were you trying to pick on me?

The coe numbers in the UK and Europe are frequently to a higher power of ten. Thus 9.6 UK equal 96 US. I ran into this with Plowden & Thompson in UK for bead making glass. LEE G
