I have a son who lives in Shandong province. Alas, he doesn't do glass. He teaches English. I admire anyone who can learn passable English, particularly anyone from a non-Indo-European-base culture. I work with a lot of people from India. It seems like the most difficult English structures for them to use are the adjectives of counting, quality or quantity: "much competitive", "many more severe". But by and large they speak better English than the Americans I work with: 'He come up from Pikeville in his pickup yesterday when we wasn't there. So nuthin got loaded '

There are uneducated people in all societies. This is nothing new to anyone, but pointing it out as particularly "American" is beneficial to whom? and how so?

I'm working with a Chinese supplier of diamond products right now. Saw blades, lap disks, etc. Unbelievable prices and the quality is actually way better in certain lines than MK and such. Anyway when I first contacted them I emailed them in the day, and then I was snoozing on the couch at about 2am and the phone rings. I thought it was a crank at first. Turns out, its their sales manager. One thing you find out about when dealing with China is, they are hungry. They follow up on their sales leads right now and they don't let up. They will keep with you for all your support, and negotiate, and are flexible. Above all they never slack. They follow up dilligently. They want to make you satisfied. This diamond supplier will actually adjust the product for me custom, in a way you'd never find with an American supplier.

By contrast, when I deal with American suppliers, the majority of folks you deal with on the phone just have pisspoor attitudes. They are a drag to deal with. Not all the time, but alot of the time. You NEVER find that with Chinese suppliers.

The only thing is, they don't really have the same vision of reality we do when it comes to business. You always get the impression that they are trying to hit the motherload and sell ten thousand units. They apparently don't have the same small business culture we do here. So, when you talk to them you need to make sure you don't tell them you are one guy working in your spare bedroom. And, be prepared to buy in quantity.

And man, optiwhite 3mm for 1.67$ a square meter!!!?? I wish I'd seen this two weeks ago. I just spent 10$ a FOOT for 3.3mm borofloat.
