Around 1000 to 1100 degrees. Go to Google and type in the search phrase "silver stain firing temperature". Lot's of sites with info.

Albinas Elskus discusses this in his book. He says " the maturing temperature of silver stain is between 950 and 1050F, far below the
1250-1400F needed for glass stainers' colors." He goes on to talk about silver stains "metaling" at too high of a temperature, creating a bluish or opaquish amber cast.I can't find my notes or my Albinas Elskus. It's medium is vinegar isn't it?
thanks Liam
Works great with water too
No, it is water. p.98 in Elskus' book. Add water slowly, you can go too far with the silver nitrate and make things blotchy.
I'm using ancient walpole stain. Nice stain but a tad dark for my aplication. Will a super light coat change the color from amber to more of a lemon yellow?

I'm using ancient walpole stain. It's a bit dark for my aplication. Will a thinner coat give a more lemon color?

Haven't had that result from mine, had to use another stain, but having said that, there are people here with far more experience with silver stain than I.
I'm using ancient walpole stain, which comes out as a nice amber. I'm looking for a lighter color though. If I fire at a lower temp, or use a thinner coat of stain, can I get a more lemon color?
