This Group

I've been gone for a little while due to medical reasons. What in the world has happened here? The only posts I'm getting are pure junk.

It's just the way groups are. The postings and replies come in waves. Next month it could really take off again.

I've been gone for about a month & come back to "see how good I am" and "buy my stuff". Happened to another group I used to frequent about a year ago.. it never recovered. Hope this one does.

How about slow recovery after spinal surgery (L4-S1 fusion with bars & screws). Any suggestions, other than the obvious?

Could someone point me to a source for beveled glass squares and rectangle shapes? Anything from about 2 inches to 6 inches. Thanks. Jane

Quantities?

Almost any retail store would have "some" to choose from.

If you need large quantities,

has as good a price as I've ever seen. Their shipping can be a bit pricey, though.

Yeah, and if you buy from McGills and pay with a credit card, they charge you extra despite that being a violation of the TOS of Visa, MC and the others. And to top that off...they never make mistakes...or at least that's what they think. I don't know how they stay in business. They used to run these huge sales and not have the items in stock. You had to prepay for the stuff and then they'd go and order it. If they sent you the wrong item it was miserable trying to get a credit, a return or a refund.

Which is why it is always better to buy what you can see, touch and feel. That way if you get home and have a big ole' scratch in a bevel, it can only be your fault, and if you buy on the internet and get a scratched bevel, it is also your fault.... I have no confidence having someone else pic out my glass, beveled or any other kind.

While it may be cheaper to buy from a supplier getting them in bulk, if you want specific sizes check your Yellow Pages. Here in Dallas there are several companies doing flat glass beveling and edge grinding, mostly for the mirror and table custom installation business. One, which I haven't used in years, would cut and bevel custom shapes - literally matching the cardboard or paper cutout or drawing you brought in - right down to the bobbles in your rough drawing which I expected for some reason to go away. I think that Houston is now officially out of the SG business.

I got an emailed "flyer" from them just yesterday. What makes you think they have shut down?

Alive and well and adapting to the economy, they are selling everything with their brand on it that they import from China, and a little Spectrum. Bevels they have, Gecko Glass and their own brand of imported tools and such, their catalog is alot smaller, they are trying to stay alive in a land of fuel surcharge shipping, which has put them at a disadvantage..

Talked to Pam Shimp, Sales manager at Houston and what you see in the new catalog is what they got. No more stained glass supplies. They've been closing all that stuff out since last year. Gecko, Spectrum and Pilkington glass only plus their line of bevels and clusters and some wrought iron stuff. No BE, Uro, Kok, etc.

They have their own line of tools, came saws, grinders, etc. with their named logo stuff, they just aren't carrying anyone else's. All Chinese with similar quality to Diamond Tech, I imagine.. It's what the industry is coming to, and in order to justify production of smaller quantities, the domestic manufacturers are going to increase their costs and their prices to the studio and small retailer, unless you want to go thru a distributor who they are determined to protect...

I think they are selling out what they have left...
