Vintage glass hurricane lamp: How to cover transferware?

I have a beautiful hurricane lamp that has horrible sunflowers on it. It is a transferware type of technique, I don't believe it is hand-painted. Is there anyway I can cover the sunflowers with something else? Perhaps another transfer that would cover the sunflowers? If so, when the light is on, will it show the sunflowers underneath? Please advise. Any ideas will be appreciated.

I can't think of a good way to cover them up. You could have them sand blasted off but this will leave you with a frosted matt finish (which might be better then the flowers).

Try Muriatic acid in a small tray, so you can lay the hurricane on its side and be completely submerged in the design area. sometimes this will remove fired on enamels, or at least soften them enough to wash them off.

think safety first!
