A stitchy question

Years ago there was a company where you send in a picture and they turn it into a cs pattern. Does anyone know what the company was and if they're still in business? Of any other suggestions? My DSis is looking to do one of her new grandson.

TIA!!!

You also have to realize that the pixel size has to be reduced to a reasonable conversion into number of pixels per stitch. A very small

600x400 pixel picture at twenty stitches per inch is a whopping 30 x 20 inches. You can see that the picture has to be small or reduced a large amount. You need to think about a reduced colour pallete as well. A normal average .jpg might easily have over 100,000 colours. A very nice picture of a baby could turn out quite terribly. You need to think about how much detail there is in a picture and possibly eliminate some colours as plain background. Otherwise you'd be stitching every single piece of that material. PHEW!

There are software programs that do the same thing. I have PC Stitch & have converted several photos to xs patterns. You do have to work through it a bit after conversion - you end up with several colors that are only used for a couple of stitches. After the stitching's done though, it's amazing how close it is to the original.

For a retirement gift for one of my surveyors, I converted & stitched a photo of their much-loved dog who had recently died. He & his wife both cried when they saw the finished product, it was so real.
