I like to try everything and find it hard to choose a favorite, but samplers do call out to me.

Silks are nice.

I'm not much of a fondler. Other than the specialty fibers that are still attached to the cat.

And you know my favorite fiber to stitch with is anything shiny (rayon, Kreinik, hologram).

Whatever is handy.

Watercolours. I love having color in my Hardanger and have dropped a fair bit of money on coordinating Watercolours and fabrics.

Silk and Ivory from Brown Paper Packages.

I don't do cross stitch either - except as an occasional filling stitch in surface work. Nor do I do any form of counted work except on very rare occasions for very special people - I once did a needlepoint insert in a stole for a favorite clergyman, and before that my last np was close to 30 years ago. I prefer the freer form of surface work. I like cotton floss for household textiles because of its washability, and wool for crewel pillows etc.

Its a toss up between Au ver a soie D'alger, or Gloriana silk (stranded & perle).....then there is Stef Francis mercerised cotton.....so many choices so little time to stitch.

Gentle Art and Sampler Threads, I own all but 5 LE skeins. I all so love working with silks.

and Temari, I have all of DMC #5 perle plus the new Variations #5 perle

Silks, definitely silks.

This from the person that has 3 hanging file storage boxes of threads, plus 3 large art bin boxes of fabric. I have definitely reached S.A.B.L.E.

Same here - I find crewel super relaxing. I seem to have lost the desire to do much canvas work either, and I used to love that.

Oh. My. Those are luscious looking... Where do you buy them?

My local needlework store has Silk and Ivory. In fact, I have some kitted up in a needlepoint project (that I haven't touched in about three years... *sigh*). It is indeed a luscious fiber.

Hmmm, so many choices...

I like the Valerie Pfeiffer birds and Margaret Sherry designs - I'm kitting up a couple right now - but I have a quite varied collection of patterns. I haven't actually tried Hardanger yet, but I'm waiting for an order of the DMC Perle Variations so I can try a small beginners' pattern that I have.

As for fibres, I love Watercolours. They have a nice feel, and beautiful colours. I've been going through my stash to see what I can use for a wedding sampler I'm planning, and I have a lovely colour called evergreen that I'm thinking of using as the main colour, with a variagated silk I also have that picks up the green, but also uses cream, pink and lavender. I haven't decided yet; I'm still playing.

worked there several years ago (under different ownership) and it was all I could do sometimes not to find an excuse to stroll by the display and fondle them. Karen E.

I'm not at all fussy, I'll stitch most anything. I don't mind working on commercial kits -- just as long as I am stitching. I like all things that have kitties in them, of course, but that should come as no surprise. If I'm going to pick and choose, I really do like to do band samplers. I would have to say my favourites are by Thea Dueck (sp??). I'm partial to working all those different types of stitches AND they can be completed fairly quickly. I'll do any counted work, pulled and cut work including hardanger, needlepoint, regular ordinary cross stitch, all types of surface embroidery, heck I even enjoy doing plastic canvas *IF* the design is to my liking. I'll work on aida or even weave -- it's all the same to MOI. I chose the fabric according to the design and the types of stitches. As for fibers, I will have to say I do love working with silks -- silks of all sorts. My favourite "ordinary" silk is the Rainbow Gallery Splendour and I have about 80% of the colors they make. I'm quite partial to overdyes and any sort of variegated silk, too -- I am having a wonderful time working with it on these seasonal bellpulls. The Autumn (the only one that is completed), Spring & Summer designs will use that new variegated silk from Oz -- I think the name is Gum Nuts but I'm not sure -- it's something like that. The Winter design is being stitched in one of the Watercolors -- r/g/w variegated and I think the name is Holiday. I use DMC for cottons and have all of their colors -- solid or variegated. Again, I'll even stitch with the floss from kits, makes no never mind to MOI. I'm with The Karen about the shiny stuff. Silks, rayon, metallics

-- I LOVE THEM and incorporate them whenever I can manage. I like the specialty stuff like Wisper, Faux Fur, Estaz, etc. -- all furry or fuzzy or sparkly or shiny -- VBS :-). I needn't tell you that I use the Wisper whenever possible on kitty stuff -- LOL. CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Floss: Anchor Overdryed - Weeks, Crescent.. Heavy Cotton - Watercolours Fun - Silk'n Ivory or Impressions & some of the Gumnuts blends Silk - thread Gatherer - silk'n colors for overdyed & Crescent Belle Soir Else - depends - Needlepoint Silk, Gumnots, Splendor, Waterlillies

Ummm - a cross is a cross? Do you meean style? Like things with a variety of stitches - for the most part. Some samplers, nothing too cutesy, though will go for the quirky...depending. And, of course, a variety of stitches on canvas. In the twisting, turning, textural and laid stitches mood lately (hence teaching the pieces with all the Jean Hilton stitches - Jessica's, Walnetos, Waffles).

Not the really traditional designs, but do a fair bit of modern interpretations. But do like doing cutwork and drawn-thread. Loved learning Aers Aemilea (Italian) similar to Reticello. Fun to do.

Silk. And some gorgeous, feathery silk stuff I got a while back - Australian, IIRC.

Looking forward to that.

Wow - someone else sharing some favorites. I love Silk'n Ivory. We have Sheep's Silk in the shop (thread gatherer) and it's similar, but not quite the same. Yum.

Bobbie, while I love your choices, I'll try to make you feel better. Someone that both Donna & know has finally told me that she has 30 full plastic tubs of kitted pieces (the tubs are the largish like hanging file full size boxes). Definitely way out there.

OTOH, I'm just happy to have 1 hanging file crate full of kitted and waiting to go stuff (not discussing the stuff that's not in the active queue - so to speak, or the large volume of threads, or the quilting stash, or the knitting stash).

Watercolours - about anywhere that carries Caron stuff . I can put some in your next package. I have some samples of Watercolours from my personal (the canvas design) stash - I'll send. It's lovely, soft, pima cotton and can replace Perl 5. Check out the Caron website.

Silk and Ivory - more likely places with NP. Very luscious.
