Any BODY embroidering ???

As we discuss cleaning ladies and other important matters , it occures to me that Nobody speaks about embroidering ? Well I am embroidering a piece that will be added as a side panel of my new woven Artwork ,,, it is still in the work , the idea is combing the traditional idea of a Shivity Mizarach , [ A Painted or printed or embroidered sign thas hung in some synaguoges to show where the EAST is ] with Private biographical elements ,, I am not using any traditional elements , only the idea that one had such a sign. This will compliment my woven work ,, mirjam

Well, I'm trying to make it through my resolutions to finish certain very nearly done projects. First one is done, second one I'm nearly there.

BUT

The other day, I came across a site that had tiny biscornus and I'm playing with one of the patterns. I'm about 10 stitches from being done with the body of the pattern, then it's the sewing edges and stitching it together.

I finished my second and probably last Di Van Niekirk ribbon and stumpwork piece. I had a lot of fun doing the first one but this one was a *itch!!!!!!!!! Too many of the little panels used simple ribbon stitches or required melding flower pieces on soluble facing and then blanket/buttonhole stitching around those shapes ... the first design used many different techniques and was more than just flowers.

Since finishing that monster, I've been making little dolls for an online class at dollstreetdreamers.com:

's been very challenging making little figures. I've also been 'stuck' duplicating the teacher's ruffles and frills using the stuff I have on hand.

Well, I just started a Margaret Sherry pattern of a cat playing with a bumble bee for DD. I'm trying valiantly to finish my parents' anniversary sampler, but I get tired of those everlasting rosebuds! I have a feeling that's going to be one that gets worked on for a week at a time, and then put down while I do something else. Speaking of Margaret Sherry, I got an email today that Heritage Stitchcraft has discontinued all her patterns, effective immediately, no explanation given. I wonder what happened. Anyone hear anything?

I keep seeing the term "biscornus". I'm just wondering what they are.

According to biscornu is a French adjective that means "that which has an irregular form, with projections" or "complicated and bizarre". To a seamstress or an embroiderer, a biscornu is a tiny eight-sided embroidered pillow that can be used as a pincushion, an holiday ornament, key chain/cell phone decoration, a scissor fob, the centerpiece of a wreath, filled with flower petals or herbs to make a sachet

Thanks! I've been wondering what they were for, and I couldn't find the term in my basic French-English dictionary!

You can save an awful lot of "wondering" by just typing the subject into Google. It rarely lets you down. even in the most obscure subjects.

Yes, I'm stitching.

Finished Sesame Street.

Spent one evening stitching on a new all-rayon angel as my reward for finishing a week ahead of deadline.

Kitted up Isabella's Garden.

Got most of a set of baby clothes done (baby's due in the next week or so, so got to hustle on that). Should finish while watching skating nationals tonight.

It's true, and I love Google. I just happened to be logged in here when I thought of it, and RCTN rarely lets you down, either! :)

Our EGA chapter president has thrown down a challenge for textile postcards to commemorate the Chapter's 25th anniversary. So yesterday DH and I did brunch followed by a trip to the fabric store. Where I found several beautiful silvery ribbons at 75% off, a lovely Jinny Beyer fabric, some more fabric, and timtex to act as a stiffener.

I got home and found that I really had severely diminished my fabric stash and don't even have any muslin (calico for you Brits). Looks like I need one more trip to the fabric store before I sit down and start seriously cutting and sewing.

I started and finished the MH Northern Lights Santa while sitting at Mom's bedside during her passing last week and am probably a couple weeks away from finishing a Janlyn freebie (pansies in a basket) that has been a UFO for a couple years. I'm not sure what I'll start after that, maybe the Lizzie*Kate ornament series.

I am! I had TWO, count 'em, TWO finishes this weekend! Finished constructing a small fabric box, the top of which sports an approx. 3"x

3" cross-stitch of a thistle (a freebie pattern from the net, started more than a year ago. Mark one UFO finished!) It's a gift for a friend who is presently in Scotland for Celtic Connections, but I'll see her next month at a professional conference.

The other was an ornament from my LNS canvaswork ornament of the month club, which I joined. It was my first completed canvaswork design. Do I get bonus points for finishing it even before the second installment comes out? (I should suggest to the shop owner that if you bring January's completed project when you pick up February's kit, you should get a discount!)

Thanks, Cheryl and Sheena. I am thankful for the memories. Mom used to sew many of my clothes when I was little and would make an identical dress for my doll. (It was her mother who interested me in crewel embroidery and knitting when I was 10 or so.) It's kind of funny, Mom kept all sorts of old paperwork and stuff, nothing really of interest now other than to chuckle over how much she paid for a stove in 1983, that sort, but I wish she had kept some of the dresses she made for me and the matching doll outfits. Oh well, I figure in

40 years or so, my daughter will probably be saying, "why did Mom keep all this cross-stitch stuff and not the 'important" stuff that I wanted..." ;-)

I think I would like to make a Biscornu as a gift for a stitching friend. Did you buy a kit or did you just make it from the freebie page?
