Baptism gown done!

I finished crocheting the baptism gown Wed. night and today I made the underslip and added the final touches. Just in time...the baptism is tomorrow! I've posted pics on both my webshots album (user name ndjoan and on the last page of my stitching album) and to rctnp for anyone who's interested in seeing them.

It's made out of alpaca/silk yarn, which is soooo soft....I loved working with the stuff!!!!

Enjoy!

It's beautiful Joan - bet they are glad they decided on a baptism, that's an heirloom for them.

They haven't seen it yet! They're picking it up later today. I hope they will think of it as an heirloom, though.

Thanks for the compliment, Sheena

Ditto - worth saying again, even after I commented on RCTNP. Really so beautiful.

That alpaca yarn is too kill for, much nicer (I think) even than cashmere.

Joan, I meant to ask - has DIL seen it yet ? Did she realise/appreciate how lovely it is ? If not, take heart, there will be people to ooh and aah over it and make her realise lolol

Maybe you should keep it in "safe-keeping". and later let DIL have control over it.

I had a silk christening gown made by maternal grandmother , which was used for my two brothers and myself. (The ribbon was changed from blue to pink.) I cared for it for many years...until I gave many family treasures to DD.

Apparently she still has this gorgeous silk robe tucked away somewhere.

I have chosen not to see it..............................just in case it is ruined or gone.

You have made a true heirloom.

Well sometimes they come a natural cropper. My two eldest were baptised (I did it because I was a dutiful daughter and knew it meant a lot to my mother lol) in the maternal family gown. Very pretty, cotton with a lovely lace panel inset all down the front. Three times as long as the baby, straight out of Victorian times.

By the time I put it on my second one we were gathering stitches here and there and it was just coming apart in our hands. My eldest aunt kept it but no baby used it after that.

Other than that, you're probably wise lol

Too right! We were at an LNS/LKS combo last week (whiling away time waiting for dog at vet) and DH was laughing when he saw me perk up fondling some gorgeous baby alpaca yarn, and next to it an alpaca/cashmere blend. It was amazing - but I resisted. For now. I did buy some alpaca blend for a gift to the DGodDaughter, and a merino/silk blend for myself.

Most definitely! It's some of the softest yarn I've ever felt.

I have some skeins of bulky alpaca yarn which I'm going to stitch into an afghan for myself. I got it right before I found out I was going to be a grandmother, so it's been on hold while I've been making grandkid presents! Maybe this winter I can get started on it.

Yes, and yes. The baptism was last Sunday and it was a bit too long cuz she kept getting her feet caught in it! Everyone, including DIL, commented on it (even DH, who *never* says anything about my stitching, called it beautiful!!!) so I was basking in compliments. lol

I did mention to her I'd like to enter it in next year's fair, so I will ask her if she wants me to keep it until then or let me. I think I'll need to wash it, since DGD was eating watermelon (thank heavens that washes out easily) while she was still wearing it.

Sometimes it's just better to not know.

I'm hoping that's what it will be!
