hello - so what is everyone up to

I finally finished off the first part of a round robin I'm in and it will be winging its way down to south shortly.

While I wait for the next part to come through, I'm working on a set of penguin ornaments I found in The Stitchery catalog, DD has gone penguin crazy in the last year, so it was a natural. I may have to scan in Perry the Platypus (and his alter ego Agent P) and go them as ornies also. (If you happen to spot the cartoon Phineas and Ferb, watch it. In some ways it reminds me of the layered humor of the 40's vintage Warner Brothers stuff)

otherwise, I'm back at my seasonal job, working lots of hours and today will be the first of two major garden clean up days this week. Oh and lunch with Margaret.

I'll step in.

I haven't picked up a needle since we got home from vacation. While on vacation I got about 2/3 of the Textile Heritage Lilies of the Valley bookmark done but none since.

Since then it's been yard cleanup, cellar cleanup and winter/ summer closet switches. The last two during the rainy days. And of course we had 80s after the closet switch.

There is an orni in the latest JSC that I want to do and had to find a Sullivan to DMC conversion for it.

OH, and before we went on vacation I discovered OttLite's new

30light LED portable lamp. They were on sale at Joann's so I picked one up. Put in the batteries and NO GO. No matter what I did it would not light up. So I return it and was hoping to get another, only if I could test it. But they had none left and the clerk wouldn't have opened the clamshell package if they had had one. Fast forward to 2 days before we were to leave. DB headed to Office Depot to pick up something for DM. He calls and asks if I want one of those lamps for $15, half the "sale price" at Joann's. Why not. Sowhat if it's plain white instead of patterned. This one did work and I had a much lighter OttLite to carry along on vacation.

I have done some reading and am currently reading A.D.Scott's A Double Death on the Black Isle, set in the remote Scottish Highlands in the 1950s.

haven't stitched in months. Will try to get to it after I get home. Right now, I am packed, and waiting for everyone else to get ready, and head to the airport in Orlando.

The guys want us to be there REAL early.............can't quite aee why. Oh well, we can always eat lunch there. Flight leaves 5.55, and we should be there by 1 ish!

Aya and I have booked a 11 hr coach tour to Windsor, Stonehenge and Bath for one day's outing. Having tea with family members at Fortnum and Masons in Piccadilly on Sunday. Will be back next wednesday.

I'm nearly finished with Earth Spirit (Northern Pines Designs)...just the last 2 rows of the 2-sided border.

Cheryl, are you ready for this pattern? Be warned...the colors on the pattern are much less vibrant than in RL! They are light blues on the pattern but are really varying shades of bright turquoise. I took a pic of what I had done next to the pattern and you can see it here:

Thanks Sheena! I had to go back and see which one you meant. That was a free design from the Caron website. I forget the name of the designer. I had it matted and put in the top of a box.

Well, I at least know you're glad to be done with that - what a good stitcher you are to finish and move on!

Picture, please.

That sounds like it was fun - no doubt.

I'm working on this piece, Flyways, from the workshop one of my ANG chapters did. Micheal couldn't come, so Peg Dunayer, from Texas taught it - she's a fine teacher, and it was fun. Sadly, several people couldn't actually be there, so we had 4 people ghosting, and then 3 didn't show for various reasons, and 4 weren't able to be there on Saturday (it was a 2 day class)

-so the others had a great lesson on Saturday. Sunday I got to go, and it was fun. I'm doing it in the Fiesta Colorway - and it's not so startling IRL. Rather the overdyed silk (stranded & perle) have a great orange to fuschia color, and it's all a bit deeper than the photo shows. Very fun to do. And fast - as it's on 14 count. However, it seems about everyone had some issues with the Walneto stitches that are done in layers of color, as are the diamond crescents. The whole piece is actually basted first to get the pattern grids, then it's very straightforward to stitch away.

is giving my brain a break. Then it's back to a couple of other pieces in the works.

Aside from that, hmmm - we just got back from a lovely 4 days in Assateague/Chincoteague - with the dog. We had tons of luck with ponies, and birds. So, now I have a lot of pictures to upload, and start playing with - some ideas for designs whirling about. And the dog had a blast playing in the surf. Assateague National Seashore permits pets in the federal park, except on wilderness trails. The MD state park now allows them in one of the camping areas, and from Oct-Mar in the day use - beach areas. Chincoteague Wildlife Reserve - no pets at all - you cannot even enter that part of the island - they turn you back at the entrance - if you have a pet with you. It was great. On our last day - we went to visit this old ferry landing (again - great bird watching) and the road was actually flooded out partway there. No landing, parking area, boardwalks - it was moon tide this week, and with all the rains recently, totally awash. I had fun backing the Expedition up til I could do a 3pt turn and get us out. The day before we were sent to a beach on the Chesapeake - and as we got about

1/2 mi away, the road was under water on the sides, then we passes a single house - and as we turned past the road was under about 6" all over, and then ahead all you could see was water crossing the road, the fields, etc. We though, hmmm, bet there's no beach visible right now. So we went south to a state park/beach and hiked around & sat with the dog on a pretty wild beach (not the people swimming side - but the rougher fishing side). Awesome & peaceful. I think we're feeling the dog looked happy - he's getting old and it was a fun thing to take him on a vacation. Now he's tired. Stayed at a B&B run by a German couple who evidently got tired of their real office type jobs and chucked it to buy a property here. We stayed in the 1802 house, there is an 1817 house, and a new one -all on the property with gardens, etc.

So, that's what I've been up to. Now I have to do tons of laundry & maybe get around to actually cleaning my own house.
