I put about two hours into the latest freebie from blue ribbon designs. I'm doing it over one on 32 count linen as a Christmas ornie, and it's working up beautifully. I love the "neatness" of it...crisp designs and exactitude.
I worked on a Halloween ornament from the latest JCS. All that's left to do the is second mouse and the rest of the second tree. I don't usually find Halloween things I want to do but this one from Ink Circles just struck me.
I did a few petals on a coneflower - a kit from Dimensions - the colours are gorgeous. I had to pick out all the petals the night before cuz I was two stitches off ... grrrrrr
Most of my needle time at present is going into making some new clothes, but I also am trying to finish the Jacobean style placemat -DMC on linen
- to match the one I did a few years ago as a teaching piece for our local guild. I also just set up a crewel - wool on slightly coarser linen - cushion cover, errr pillow top to replace one on which the linen is disintegrating.
Past two nights - making progress on "Echoes of Elizabeth" from an online class by Gay Ann Rogers. It's all nun stitch, all the time for me with a light beige pearl cotton on white congress cloth. But it is moving along quickly because after a certain point I don't need to stop and count.
For inquiring minds - this class is through The Shining Needle Society. Link here:
Hmmm - well during Thursday stitchie group I worked on a seminar piece from last Sept, which is silks & metal on 24 ct congress. And thankfully Sara Leigh graciously lent me a magnifier 'cause I remembered why I'd let this piece sit. It's all different trame' patterns and or nue' (silks over the metal). Leaves & flowers. While I can see this just fine, without my readers, I actually need both the little readers (which are only 1.5 or
1.25) and the clip-on magnifier because the stitches are so closely interwoven and packed, and must be precise - especially the couching where rows of couching silk may go up to just be hidden by the metal from the laid row above (not the one said silk is couching). I know, clear as mud. So, in my hour+ of stitching I finished.....half of a leaf. During which time I finally announced "this is the absolutely most difficult compensation I have ever, ever, done" - on a stitch called "Sandy's Slide." Which is essentially a diagonal row of little tent stitches slanting one way, followed by a row of 1X3 long stitches leaning the other way - so they kind of interweave. And for this design, the slant of the long leg is the main direction that you should be showing for the direction of the leaf. And of course, the leaf is then split at the vein, so reverse the directions. Nice look - but slow, confusing going. Oh, did I mention it's blended in the needle - 2 strands 1 color, 1 of another, to give more shading. Very confusing. And best worked with 2 needles - one doing the little stitches, the other doing the long ones. Ugh.
Night stitching - hmmm, another bit of the Mt Vernon shell pillow. Not a fun stitch, except for the honor of doing something that will be on display at Mt V. Can I mention that I hate Appleton Tapestry weight wool - it is soooo fuzzy. When all is done I'll be able to post some pics - I don't think we're supposed to post pix yet.
Tonight...hoping to work on the floral thing again. Then I'm back to full speed on my new teaching pieces - 'cause like an optimistic fool I've booked to have a table at the ANG Teacher's Expo. Which means these 4 pieces must be done, DONE, photo'd and brochured when I leave here end of Sept.
Last night I did a (very) little on my fairy I just started for my little niece Caylie. You people are a bad influence on me - I now have a living room (floor stand) project, a bedroom project, and a purse project! John's about to lock up my stash LOL.
There is a theory I might finish this fairy for Christmas, but I'm not holding my breath, she may end up with it for NEXT year's birthday!
EXCELLENT! Welcome to the club ;^) The Mt. Vernon piece is on huge stretchers - 23# X 26#, so it's now on the floor stand, which is now in the rec room. It looks like it's own table - DH pushed the coffee table towards the corner of the sectional, as I sit at the other end, and this way I can pull it in to stitch, and there's room to move it out, or get past. OTOH, DH now climbs over the end of that sofa and jumps over the arm to get down from his perch. The dog's liking it!
You didn't list the "projects in their tote/bag/case...waiting to move into action."
Hey, at least she'll still be a child. My last fairy project - let's just say the niece just finished her freshman year at university - of course she was in 1st grade when I kitted it! You'll get there (BTW - this stack of too unfinished is not something of which I am proud).
No stitching lately. I've been updating a scrapbook of a 1988 driving vacation from the Bay Area to Key West & back. I need to get back to my dog/motorcycle/cop project. Last year we thought we were going to lose that brother in law. Wednesday night I got a call from my sister to tell me that another BIL has a glioma - a BAD brain tumor - NOT a good outlook. :-( He's my oldest sister's DH but a month younger than I am and a really nice guy. It's the kind of situation that makes me want to ask "why?"l but no one ever said life was fair. Liz from Humbug
