I answered this question yesterday when you asked it.

Buy 18-count white. Look in Michaels for Pebeo Transparent fabric dyes. Buy the green. Put just a speck of dye into water, so the fabric gets just the slightest green tinge. Dampen the fabric with plain water so that the dye will spread evenly. I put a plastic garbage bag on my table before I paint the dye on the fabric for ease of clean up.

Air-dry the fabric completely flat (if it's not flat, you'll get darker spots in the valleys and lighter spots on the higher parts). When the fabric is completely dry, you'll need to heat set the color in the oven.

If you don't like the color after it's air-dried, you can either rinse the dye out and make a lighter batch of dye, or paint on another "coat" to make it darker. Once it's heat-set, it's permanent.

If you are interested in finding the pattern, I saw a couple listed on ebay. Apparently, it was published around 1984!

This was the very first counted cross stitch piece I ever did - nothing like starting off with a big project! I simply stitched mine on white fabric but had the mat board and frame done in the same colors as the actual board we had....and I think it looks fine. And yes, we've played games on it!

Have fun stitching! MelissaD
