Magnifying lamp

I don't post here - mainly just a lurker - but found a good deal and wanted to share it with fellow needleworkers.

I was in my needlework shop about a month ago and the owner was working on a project. I was interested in her magnifying lamp and asked her about it. She said it was a Daylight Lamp and I sat down in her chair to "try it out". Wow...I was really impressed! She said she liked it much better than the Ott light.

When inquiring about prices, she said "about $159 for the light and about $100 for the stand".

Of course, I immediately went home to check on the internet and found a GREAT price for it - the light was on sale for $99.99 and the stand was on sale for $59.97 . All total with shipping was about $179 (vs. the $290-$300 she said it would cost with tax and shipping). I ordered mine immediately, got it in about a week, and am LOVING it!!!

Thought some of you might be interested. It's on sale through 12/31 (although when I got mine, it said "good through 10/31" - they just moved the date).

oh...and thought I'd let you know, too, that the reason I didn't get it from HER was that she was out of both the lights and the stands at the time and didn't know when she'd get any more in. Also, I was just visiting family in the area and wouldn't be back for quite a while.

they sell a lovely lamp for under a $100CDN. Unfortunately they don't have a stand for it. I know they're available but as of yet have been trying to find one.

I know this is totally OT,( or maybe not) but I just love Lee Valley!! I had ordered from their catalog, and thoroughly enjoyed browsing the shop in Halifax. Their watch-maker boxes are ideal for beads. They lso have neat gifts for younger kids. Stocking stuffers, but also educational! Highly recommend it, and I will send a picture if you email me!! Items can be bought fromthe US, because they have a facility in Ogdensburg, I think, un up-state NY

Not that long ago, I bought a Daylight table lamp that has a gooseneck magnifying arm. I've just about given up using the magnifier because I can't seem to position it so that there's no reflection from the lamp. Any and all suggestions to overcome this phenomena would be appreciated.
