Maryland state fair results

Picked up two pieces I entered in the Maryland state fair and got one blue ribbon (first place) and one fifth-place ribbon. Posted a photos of the 5h place (Christmas ornament) on rctnp, along with two other recent finishes.

I don't have a photo of the first-place one; I'll have to scan it in. It's a small piece: JBW Design's "Noah's Ark" stitched over one and made into an ornament, approx 3 inches by 5 inches, rather than a pillow:

The bracelet is really fun - how did you attach the tags to each other? She must have loved it.

With stretchy elastic thread. If you're interested in details, I can work out an explanation and give directions, but it mightn't be easy to explain, so I won't go into it unless someone is seriously interested.

Never mind: Google is your friend:

As always - your stitchin' shines! Congrats, Sue.

Also - do you always work on Fridays? I have to be in Baltimore on the 22nd for a long, boring morning - test at 9, doc at noon. Expect to be done before 1. So - .....

Oops - I'm actually in Baltimore on the 23rd. The 22nd we're seeing Renaissance at the Birchmere. Yes, that Renaissance - evidently they're having their own renaissance of Renaissance........

Me, too. I kind of cracked up 'cause I didn't know that DH had been a fan, as we didn't know each other back in the old undergrad days. But, we had a mailing from Ticketmaster for a pre-sale on tix, and I thought, nah, couldn't be, not THE Renaissance - but it was. So, we got the tix. It's not a really large venue - in Alexandria, and should be fun. Although it's first come open seating, and you actually have to pick up the tix at the box office, day of show, with it opening at 5 for a 7:30 show. They're in Annapolis the night before, and it's a handful of the original band members, most importantly with Annie. Supposedly she's in pretty good voice. Evidently they got a new manager this year and have been reinvigorated to do a tour. She does a bunch of charity and art stuff. Interesting. It'll be interesting to see how this goes - we're planning to get there early - which given the DC traffic ought to be interesting at the least...more like challenging.

Sorry I've been so long in replying...we got away for a few days at the beach, and I'm just getting caught up!

I work on Fridays, and that particular Friday is my mom's BD, my brother visiting from NY state, AND an Alistair Frasier/Natalie Haas concert, so my schedule is slammed! Sorry I can't fit one more thing in!

Enjoy Renaissance - that'll be a fun show! I believe Annie Haslam now lives in Pennsylvania...

No problem at all. Sounds like you'll have much more fun with your busy day than being "filler" for me ....I just told DH I'll have to find someplace to go explore for a couple of hours.

I think you're right about Annie Haslam. They've got an interesting website now, and of course with having bought the tix to see them at the Birchmere, we're now on their mailing list. It'll definitely be interesting to see how they sound, and particularly Annie. DH is already planning to be out the door at work by 3:35 - the class he's teaching ends supposedly at 3:30, and the students bolt but generally not him. However, on that day taking no chances, I'm carpooling him to work, then will pick him up so we can hopefully in 90 min cover the 30 mi to the Birchmere (almost all beltway). What fun - reliving our youth.

When we saw Follies at Ken Ctr last year, Bernadette Peters was not close to being near her peak, she wasn't in great voice at all - so after that, it'll be an interesting comparison to see how Annie of the amazing voice has fared. OTOH, Linda Lavin & Elaine Paige were absolutely amazing.

So, enough OT for now....

DD bought tix for Le Miz at Kennedy Center, and is eagerly anticipating it by listening and singing along to the Cds....I wonder how she'll restrain herself during the performance? She said (and I agree) it would be a smart move for the producers to designate a "sing along" performance...much like the "sing along Messiah" that happens annually in December.

What part of B'more will you be in? I could possibly suggest a time-not-so-waster in certain neighborhoods.

LOL - DH has been doing the same, to prevent me from having to elbow him during the performance. We're seeing it on Oct 8 - we're always on the 2nd Sat night of any run. When's DD going? It's actually Break Fast for me, so DH thought I should call and see if any of the restaurants are going to have the traditional breakfast food of bagels and lox on hand. I figure that I'll just grab something before the performance at the café - we usually go out after. We actually got a ticket - dead center orchestra - for Donna during the members pre-sale (which I have to get to her, along with her book that I found). I'm really excited about the show, and we're both intrigued to see the set - which is supposedly different. It's the first cast album (pre-cd only days) that I ever bought.

They are having an afternoon behind the scenes talk with some of the cast and staging crew for Les Mis, I forgot the date, but you can find the info on the Ken Ctr site - send me a note separately, we get all kinds of poop with pre-sales, etc. One never knows what will happen at these events - we've gone to a few of them, mostly post a performance Q&A.

I have to be at the Bayview Campus of Hopkins. Evidently they've moved about all the neurology specialty stuff to that site - so I think it's near Canton - north of the tunnels. According to the info, the Bayview Hospital is the record holder of being the longest continuously operating hospital in the US. Maybe even NA - who knew?

Suggestions welcome. The goddaughter has started classes for grad school, and her MIT education in BioEngineering left her with lots of micro scale bio, but no actual Anat & Phys, so she's having to take that with the med students - keeping her busy. I warned her about those cut-throat med students....as her dept is actually BioMed Engineering, in the Engineering college, but she's doing something on immunology & genetic engineering which has been arranged to have her do some courses in the med school. While she's pretty brilliant, doing A&P with the med students who've all had at least a course in undergrad as pre-meds will be tough - not sure what other stuff she's taking. So, I'm hoping she'll want to do lunch when I'm done around 1, but who knows. I'm still so thrilled at being able to do 2 rush hours in one direction of commute - to be there now at 8:30 am. Ugh.
