Need Input a New Project

Hi Guys, I am starting to think seriously about my next project to be started once I finish the stuff I am working on as holiday gifts. I have a series of seasonal bellpull charts from Calico Crossroads that are designed by Linda Connors. Each one has a seasonal flower (Autumn has a pumpkin) placed somewhere within the word for that season. Here's the link to all the bellpull designs

-- the Autumn design is the first one on the page. Anyway, they are really pretty and not terribly large so should work up quickly. I will probably stitch them on either a pale greenish even weave or one of the neutral colors I have in my stash. I'd LOVE to do them on one of the hand dyed fabrics from Picture This Plus ( http://www.picturethisplus ) but I'm not sure my pocketbook could handle the cost as I will need about a yard for each bellpull! I will be changing the colors in the lettering to stuff that looks good in my family room and still coordinates with the flower motif. I bought some lovely hand dyed variegated silks from Dinky Dyes when I was at CATS for just this purpose. The SPRING design has a pansy and I already have a number of variegated purple/green and purple/yellow silks. SUMMER is a pink rose and I got a nice pink/purple/cream variegated (#101 Kalamunda). AUTUMN is a pumpkin and I bought a pretty pale cream/peach/orange variegated (#33 Desert Sands). There's no purple in the Desert Sands color so I might just have to add a few purple beads to the pumpkin grouping -- LOL! My problem is with the WINTER design. The flower looks like a spider mum and is done in blue -- I.A.Y.P.!!! I don't like blue so I obviously want to change the color. I will do the colored part of the letters in Waterlilies #025 Holiday, a red & green variegated silk. I'm not sure I want to do the flower in plain old red silk. I keep running the idea of doing the flower in rayon or maybe using Kreinik with the silk. I have a number of pretty variegated red silks but I'm not sure the flower would look good done in a variegated. So, anyone who is interested, could you take a look at the site and find the WINTER bellpull and let me know if you have any brilliant ideas for that spider mum? If no new ideas come to mind, I'll probably just add some 031 Kreinik (I *think* that 's the number for the opalescent color) to each of the solid red silk colors called for. Thanks bunches & CiaoMeow >^;;^< PAX, Tia Mary >^;;^< (RCTQ Queen of Kitties) Angels can't show their wings on earth but nothing was ever said about their whiskers! Visit my Photo albums at

LOL - you have no idea when that might be. I'm not much for trading charts

- just the struggling designers thing. They have a very funny copyright statement on their chart. IT is a ice, big, easy to read chart. I'll trade other stuff, though. It is a pretty fun design - I hope to get to it soon.

It SAYS it`s a blue carnation, Mary!

That, at least, gives you more options. On the other hand, blue IS a winter colour.

Or just imagine that you are one of the 0.4 percent of US females (or one of the 7 percent of the US males) that have defective colour vision; then you can have whatever colour of carnation you wish. Our dark red carnations are at their peak right now - to me they look almost black; and our pink carnations appear light blue to me.

Knowing how much you like purple, what about changing all the blues to a nice royal purple? After all, that *is* a Christmas color (at least for the Catholic church I attended growing up). Christ, the king, and all that. I always lean to purple and green as my holiday colors...

Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

First - it is a carnation! Honestly - why not change it to a purple flower since I know you like purple. Reds are maybe, or lemon yellows?

Enjoy yourself!

Who among us DOES "need" more stash?

Nonetheless, I just bought one of LizardGumbo's charts, and while I'm waiting for it to arrive, I hand-dyed some fabric to stitch it on.

CHOCOHOLIC ENABLING ALERT.... Pepperidge Farm Orange Milanos "Prepare for departure ... and be swept away by this aromatic creation. Between the exquisite cookies of this classic Milano awaits an intriguing melange of enticing orange creme and rich, dark chocolate."

Who writes this stuff?

Despite the purple prose, since the bag had a sticker on it "Instantly Win a European Adventure", and they were on sale, I took every bag they had. Haven't won yet, but I'm sure whichever of you lovelies does win, will want to take me along to translate. :)

Thanks for the heads up! I love orange Milanos and wouldn't mind winning the European Adventure. The cookie description is sappy but accurate.

Okay, I did a stash addition today -- not stitching, but knitting/crocheting

  1. I took apart a poncho / cape that I made last year -- just didn't like it, now I have all that yarn to use again
  2. I wanted to get another color of Caron Soft yarn to use with some bits and pieces to make myself a sweater (it was on sale for a skein instead of .07)
  3. Of course, I looked around while finding my yarn and noticed a really cool variegated/multicolored on sale for 50 cents per skein AND they had six skeins (total of 24 oz which is enough for this new raglan sweater pattern I've fallen in love with)

Sigh, I really want to finish the Santa Ornament AND make some progress on one of my other WIPs (Rocky Mountain Christmas - doing on needlepoint canvas, Purple Passion, Under the Oaks, and Flower Power -- those are the stitching projects that I consider to be WIPs, we won't count the projects all kitted up and ready to go NOR the projects that I haven't stitched on in over a year!)

Enough to guess what you said, yes. :)

I've studied German, French and Spanish. Grew up in a town of Italian immigrants, so even though I didn't take classes, I speak enough to get by. Can bumble through Portuguese, Dutch and the assorted Scandinavians based on my knowledge of related languages.

Besides, in this crowd, the only thing I really need to translate is "where is the LNS?"

WHOA -- funky looking Carnation -- and that's my birth month too -- LOL! I was wondering why the design had what I thought was a spider mum -- mums are usually for autumn not winter! I know red would work, I was just hoping someone might have some other idea. I suppose that if I did the designs on a colored fabric, I could do the flower in white!! There's loads of white carnations -- even white spider mums too :-))! CiaoMeow >^;;^<

WHAT -- you expected me to READ what the design says?? What is wrong with you, Pat??? And I loathe blue -- won't use it for anything but sky or water or Siamese cat eyes. That ain't gonna be a blue flower -- carnation OR spider mum -- LOL! What do you think of a white carnation if I stitch the piece on a colored fabric or maybe a dark neutral so the white shows up a bit better??? CiaoMeow >^;;^<

I must have thought about that when buying floss at CATS because I also purchased a lovely variegated purple -- light to dark. I could use it for the colored part of the letters and then do the flower in purples. I just REALLY wanted to use that r/g Waterlilies and it would look truly garish with just about *any* shade of purple -- VBS! Oh well, decisions, decisions :-)! CiaoMeow >^;;^<
