New needlework tools

I happen upon this frame for holding fabric (first link) and for framing finished needlework (second link). Item descriptions are good and there is a video as well. These are made in the USA, but the only stores that have them are in the UK. I have used this ebay seller before and decided to order each. I will give you a further review of them after I receive them and happen to find them in my stocking Christmas morn.

Sounds intriguing. I wonder if you can get weaver's cloth tight enough on this system for punchneedle.

It would be interesting to find out what you think of them.

I envy you the snow ( don't laugh). It does make it wintry; at the rally the temps were about 50-60, and the women were in the building (72 degs) with heavy jackets and scarves. I wore jeans, unusual for me (didn't have time to change into shorts), and short-sleeved shirt.

The owner came in and lit a lovely wood fire in the rec hall for us, because it was "SO COLD". LOL

Cheryl came this morning and we Tested both "Grip" products listed above from Dove Stitch in the UK, as well as several different sizes of Spiral Eyed Needles.

Grip N Stitch. The item was just like the video and the pieces were easy to adjust. The connections screwed together and it is easy to customize the size. The grippers are very "Sharp and I did get a small puncture in my palm, but no blood luckily. The product does allow for a drum tight surface and could be used even for punch needle embroidery. I would not use it for a piece in which you would have to reposition the fabric in order to stitch. the new Q-snap fabric covers would be useful with the product. It did take this product a month to get here and Dove Stitch was the only place I found them. I plan on showing them to Susan Greening Davis at Celebrations of Needlework in NH this year though.

Grip N Frame. This product is just the gripper teeth. I have to say that this "DEFINITELY" an easy and inexpensive way to stretch and mount needlework for framing. The teeth slip onto mat board and the fabric can be stretched over it with or without padding underneath. It is "SO EASY" to make small adjustments to the needlework piece. The fabric and grippers are then dropped into the frame. EASY, EASY, EASY, when compare to foam core mounting or lacing. Just make sure you use acid free mat board. The gripper teeth could possibly be used on foam core, but I did not have a piece to try it on. ***** stars of of Five

Spiral Eyed needles. Did anyone else notice that they are in the new Herrschner catalog??? I found the hardanger size very short, more like a quilting between length. I used one on the fabric stretch in the Grip N Stitch, and found it worked without snagging or catching. I also tried it on some needle weaving, and will rate it as fair. I wouldn't buy a lot of them, but they were easy to thread and I could see where they might be of an advantage if one was doing a piece that required a lot of color changing. Very quick delivery and now it looks that these will be available from more outlets. *** stars out of Five

Bobbie V. soon to be on her way to San Diego for a month.

I see they have improved the grip stitch since it first come out a few years ago. Then you had to cut it and mitre the corners. The teeth were like the edge of a saw blade and vicious to handle. I threw my lengths of it in the bin. Due to my ill health I have not been to any craft shows for two years so have not seen the latest products. Hugs Shirley

I was impressed but wonder about the plastic long term for framing. For stitching - in a heartbeat.

The spiral eye needles are very nice
