non-energetic happy dance

Just got back from an annual weekend getaway with my BFFs from elementary and high school. We had a marvelous condo in Hilton Head and spent three days doing Nothing At All except talking and laughing and occasional walks on the beach or dips in the pool.

I, however, spent the entire weekend coughing and having to concentrate very hard on breathing. Went to urgent care for nebulizer, inhaler, and meds. Wonderful, though, to be in a restful place with nothing pressing to do and five terrific friends to look after me well. One is a nurse and gave "cupping" treatment on my back; others have asthma, so I was able to snag their inhalers in the middle of the night when I needed them.

So home again, and feeling pretty crappy. Today I'll be pacing myself carefully between work and a lot of feets-up and do some crocheting - something mindless and with a big needle that won't take much motor control! I don't like this shaky feeling from the meds at all!

But the happy dance comes from the heartwarming reception to a gift. Each year I make a little something for the group - a bookmark, or an ornament, or something. Six identical small pieces. And this year I decided to shake it up. I made a sampler for one of the women, and told them each year one person would get something individual just for them. This will allow me to think on *each* person and their tastes and interests and potentially indulge myself artistically. And no hints or foreplanning from anyone but me - just a total surprise for the recipient.

For this year I made the Drawn Thread "Generosity" sampler for the woman who has been my best friend from first grade on, and she absolutely loved it. It is so much her style visually, but even more personality-suited (in that she is one of the most generous people I know. Generous to a fault, literally, something she struggles with, as so many of us do.) She shared a story from her childhood about sharing mittens on the playground that underscored how very perfectly suited to her this project is. Don't you just love it when it goes right like that? *Nailed* it!!!!

So now I start thinking about next year's gathering, and who will be the lucky recipient, and what suits. The contemplation and imagining all the possibilities is half the fun. And it won't necessarily be cross-stitch for each...maybe crochet, quilt, hardanger. Endless possibilities.

I'll post a photo of "Generosity" on r.c.t.n.p.

that? *Nailed* it!!!!

I did this one for a friend who spins and weaves - she weaves for me, and I do cross stitch for her. I used GAST instead of DMC, and whisper for the sheep wool. It hangs in her 'loom room'.

Lucky friends.

Absolutely lovely! and what a great idea. I'd love to have a retreat like that.

And feel better. Last year, when I got really sick, I needed an inhaler along with the oral meds. Hated the dang thing, made me feel dizzy for about

10 minutes. Next time, I'm declining one. C

Thanks. This is hanging on terribly, so I'm off to the doc in a few minutes. (Un)(fortunately) -- truly a mixed blessing -- DD has severe asthma, so we have a med center in the house and I'm using her nebulizer and meds. Better than the inhaler.
