OFF TOPIC - season is over

It may have been a heart breaker, but it was wonderful that they made it all the way. They skated well, and my DH and I enjoyed watching the game.

DD's ladies team made it all the way to finals. They lost 4-3 in a heart breaker.

Sorry they lost, I know they played hard!

But have to say I envy you a break in the season! Swimming goes on all year round and DS is now doing track and two baseball teams. . .

Thank you Margaret. DD is very proud of her performance. Off season, such that it is, will be short and with only public skate for ice time. I can deal... C

DD will be biking and blading and running.... Nothing organized until camp.

WOOHOOOOO!!!!! Second place is *definitely* better than last! :) It will also give them the impetus to work a little harder next yeat, since they got soooooo close this year. Kudos to Elise and the rest of her team!

Sadly, of the 14, 5 move to the next age level and 7 left for a mixed team. DD may or may not stay put. Some of the "co-ed" coaches are looking for a big defenseman.

I think you mean "defensechick."

One strange afternoon, we, the moms of those girls playing defense, decided defenseman was just fine. Anything else just sounded too weird...

I was glad to keep getting the updates! And, now you guys can watch and wave as the CAPS finally, finally go to the play-offs and hopefully get past the Phlyers. Amazingly, our house seems to be like ticketmaster of late!

For the CAPS last game on Saturday, the final celebration was actually right directly in front of me, and there is a pic on the website of our row holding a banner, with DH dead in the middle (I of course am bent over and not visible because I'm putting all the crap the guys suddenly shoved in my hands onto the seat. For the replay, when we watched - you could see in the 3rd period - we had an Alex Ovechking bobblehead sitting on the boards "watching" over things. It's pretty funny, I took pix from behind and will eventually post them. Sadly, the MPEG of the celebration was overwhelmed by noise, etc - and isn't You-Tube worthy. But, eventually I will post some pix somewhere. Or send to the curious. At least the last year that we're in the Row A seats we get to the play-offs. (we're moving back a row as the price on these has gone beyond the already absurd to unbelievable).

For the curious.

go to "4-5-08 Capitals vs. Panthers" and as you go through the show, you'll see the celebration (you can't see me - cause I'm right behind theedge of the crease), and then when you get to the down front "southeast..."banner DH's face is right over the "T" - you can see my hand next to him -and our friends behind us. Just FYI, the guy next to DH in the hat, bid onan auction for those seats, paying over $2000 per, and his daughter beingthe one who got the "shirt off their back" from Ovie. LOL - as a "D-man" I'm ok with that. I don't know any women who refer to themselves as "D-women or girls or the like. Generally, it's just "I play D" . Another reason to bond with the namesake- who at this point of my out-of-shape ness could likely outskate me. But, DH has firmly stated that I will start getting back into shape so I can at least ref by the fall - if not by the end of summer leagues. Don't know. We're hoping to get new skates made for me next time the reps are around for the CAPS - like in August.

DS is half rooting for them as he really admires both of the Cap's goaltenders. Huet was at the Monarchs and really great with the kids.

She's D and proud of it.

As for skates, I'm hoping this pair lasts through the summer, but I'm not betting on it. Hadn't really realized that she grew two inches since the school year started. Now she's started that eat and sleep routine, I'm expecting a few more. C

It is a very, very likable group of players. And amazing in coming from last place at Thanksgiving to where they are now. You must've met the coach, Boudreau, when he was at the Monarchs.

Honestly, there were clearly times when you could see Alex decide to just through his force of will carry that team to a win - his face would get even more determined, and some phenomenal effort skating through the opponent, and a goal would happen. Not always, but in the climbing out of the basement those of us regularly at games could see this - an amazing thing. And he's such a really nice, decent young man. And, boy, do we LOVE Sergei Federov. Every time he skates towards us I shake my head and say - Federov

- in a CAPS uniform - oh my> After the pix we took, and being at the game - up close and personal - when Detroit won here in 98....it's a welcome shocke to the system. Have to say - he is practically the most articulate, well-spoken hockey player we have had here - gives wonderful interviews, and is a joy still on the team - especially when he bursts suddenly with a shot like he's 28 not 38. Great having him here to help ground the Alexes - especially the #28 Alex (Semin).

Well, Sara Leigh & Jon think I should wear a Scarlet Thread T-Shirt to the home opener of Rd 1 tomorrow night....We'll see.

Sorry to hear that. At least at her height/weight you can get away with the used ones - since they're only temporary! I'm not looking forward to another custom pair - in the price category. But, since mine were made prior to the last surgery, well, the shape is a bit off. I'm going to give them a try anyhow - at least for the exercise I should be able to skate without them being laced up too far - it's a theory.

It's getting harder to find quality used skates - she's up to a 4 or 5 depending on brand. (sneakers and dress shoes are a 7 or 7 1/2).
