We sent our little Emma (Cavalier KC)across the bridge this afternoon - she`s been very ill for a fortnight, and it became obvious that she wasn`t going to improve. It does make you realise what a shame it is that we can`t sometimes be as kind to humans.
Thanks Gill - Emma`s the older one (nearly 13) so fortunately we still have the "pup" (Maggie) She`ll be three this November - it seems only yesterday I was announcing her arrival! I`d be devastated if Maggie went. At least Emma had a good life and quite a long one for a KCSpaniel. We`ve never had one quite make it to 12 before.
She`s a great one for a cuddle, so she`s cheering us up. She actually comes and cuddles US - lays her head on your shoulder and puts a paw in your hand. She`s being promoted to having her bed in our room (as long as she doesn`t jump all over me in the night!!!) We`ve always had the oldest dog in our room. Maggie is likely to be the last, though - having had so much illness ourselves over the past eighteen months, we realise that we had better not get another one. I think!
I'm sorry to hear such sad news, but she did have a good life with people who loved her and cared so much for her. Puff and I send you our deepest condolences.
Condolences on the loss of your little Emma. She is playing on the other side, keeping an eye on her family here, and waiting for them to play later on.

My sweet little Normie pig (my last guinea pig, who was at the end of a normal lifespan for a pig) went to the Bridge yesterday. Maybe they are playing together now. :) It's like the end of an era for us -- we've have guinea pigs around here for the last 10 years.
Thanks Addie - hugs are certainly what Cavaliers love best! Our remaining one is terrifically cuddly! She`s wandering around the house sobbing quietly at the moment because our son and daughter-in-law-to-be have just gone back home!
They never seem to miss the dog that`s passed on, even if they get on really well during life. Strange, that.
Normally we have two of them (partly so that they have company when we go out) but I don`t think we`ll be getting another puppy now.
I love guinea pigs (or "giggle" pigs as the kids called them!). Our daughter, Jane, now has several. I`ll never forget, when she was eight, and her older sister had bought her one for her birthday. One morning she went out to feed them and came rishing in to gasp "Mum there are FOUR of them out there! Her face was a picture - and sure enough, there were three tiny carbon cpies of their mother!!!
Many years later I was presented with four newborn babies to care for, as the mother had died giving birth, and Jane was at work all day. Thy lived in our bathroom until they were weaned, and I fed them Lactol every couple of hours, with a syringe. It was a bit of an experience going to the loo, as every time the door opened they squealed at full volume, expecting to be fed!
Our Emm certainly wouldn`t hurt Normie! Now if he were a frog, it might be a different matter! Her favourite occupation was chasing frogs.

Normie was born with a bulls-eye looking spot on his hind end, so we buried him in a camoflage bandanna so that nobody would get him when he wasn't watching. :) I am sure he will be most glad to see his big brother Wilbur (a.k.a Wibber), who has been his lifelong buddy until 3 months ago, when he left.
