OT - bored redux

I feel right now much the same way I did when DH got sick last time; bored, restless and disconnected. I am fairly sure that in a few more weeks I'll be close to back to normal (if not, I will seek professional help). It is this in between period that is really tough. Tearing out time and funds to do something beyond going out to lunch is just not possible. Heck, I wish my friends that I would go out to lunch and a heart on the table session with were available (two are in the release phase of software project and can't escape, another has a toddler, the other just took a teaching job).

I think that is what ails you, stress from DHs medical problems, and that's natural enough. I think you are a tough mama and can get through this period without the aid of pills that might be hard to eliminate later, all those mood altering pills are bad things.

You have had the same strange weather we are having and that doesn't help, even if it feels good lol

If you don't like the idea of a spa (confess it's not my thing either) how about just taking a whole day as Cheryl Day. Go to a movie, have lunch out (a very nice lunch) with yourself. Shop and buy one totally unnecessary thing you don't need but would like, doesn't have to cost a Kings Ransom. What about a book you felt was a bit pricey ??

Then go home - with some takeout in that car - do not even do supper, remember it has to be all about Cheryl not doing anything that day.

What she said !!! If you like to window-shop, you could just go to some wildly expensive store, where you can't afford to buy anything but looking is free and then you can still dream, can't you? Or take yourself to a museum and look at things neither your kids or your DH would be remotely interested in.

Sometimes just being away from them for a time, even if it's just for a couple of hours, is enough to make you feel better. Just make sure it's a day when everyone is under someone else's wing, so you don't have to worry, or even think about, home and hearth.

Or, as an alternative, you can just wait and like most problems, this too shall pass and all will be well again.

I must be strange - I don't like audiobooks. It feels "wrong" to me to listen to someone read to me - the voices are never "right" to me. I'd have never made it the time of radio....

I love listening to books, it's like being a child again and my brother reading me to sleep.

That is the whole point - MAKE that day happen - you can do it and you will feel so much better afterwards.

I second this. You guys indulge, support the kiddie's hockey habit. I'm sure they wouldn't begrudge you a little funds to buy a book, take it with you to a lovely lunch - that includes table service - and some relaxation. Sometimes being by yourself and indulgent is just enough refreshment. Or go to one of the museums that you'd like to visit and wander, including the lunch, etc. Something just fun.

(((HUGS, Cheryl)))

In addition to everyone's very good advice about taking some time for yourself, try to get a little bit of exercise. I think this time of year is tough (post-holidays and still dreary winter), but I find regular exercise (like 20 to 30 min a couple days a week) helps a ton! With the crazy weather the eastern US has had, I'm certain you can get out for a stroll around the block, can't you? (If I can do it in the cold up here in Edmonton... LOL)

Also, you didn't mention anything about your garden. Aren't the new seed catalogues being delivered? Can't you make plans for this spring? Heck, you can fantasize about what you'd like to do, even if it's not something you can remotely accomplish.

This too shall pass, hopefully sooner rather than later.

Best regards,

Cheryl,

I hope you are not suffering with hockey odoritis! lol, right? I know it was bad to have one in hockey, but 2 kids must be extra hard. About 3 years ago, I told my DH that I was no longer taking DS to hockey practices and games. (but of course I went to games) just had to get point across. He was usually busy when it came time to go to the rink for practice. Practice, games, work, and my DD activities were just sapping all my energy. It got to the point that the stomach would turn at the smell of the rink.

DH did the hockey, I did the cheer and dance. As DS got older, I began skipping more games, he isn't always in goal. It helped free up some time for me and I was able to just do what I needed to do for myself. I hope you do have time for yourself. It can make a world of difference.

I exercise to rejuvinate. I also like to go to visit the Amish Country in PA for 2-3 days. It is a me time. I shop, eat, and go to bed early. It does wonders.

I hope you are feeling better soon.

Diane
