OT-Help with photo editing program?

I finally got around to doing something about photo editing on this not so new computer. The included windows photo gallery doesn't do enough even for someone as limited as I am and I discovered that my very old version of Photoshop Elements is way outdated and won't work with Windows Vista, not to speak of the fact that this is a 64 bit system.

Does anyone know of a good, easy to use for a photo editing challenged dope like me. I would prefer not to spend too much on the program. I guess that should read really cheap and free would be even better.

Do any of you use Picasa?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Many people love Picasa and judging by how many pics you send me, I would think it is a good one for you.

My husband is always berating me for using Picasa instead of the Photoshop Elements version that he got when he bought video editing software. But I like Picasa. They continue to update it and add more editing functions. It works for me.

Lucille,

I'll talk to DH and ask him, as he is well on his way to being the guru of photo processing software.

If it is a small job, I'll bet he'll do it for you

Lucille,

I was in the same position. My new computer is a 64 bit system, and some of my old software didn't work with it. Jim installed Photoscape on it for me. I think it is a freebie, and seems to work OK. Not as easy as my old program, but I can at least use it.

Also, if you have an old version of PS Elements, then can't you upgrade it rather than buying the new full version. FWIW, I see the PC version in COSTCO all the time, and it's not very expensive - maybe $55 or so - more or less.

I'm no use, as for very basic stuff I just use iPhoto, otherwise, I have the Adobe graphics stuff, so I'm using elements or other software. But, honestly on a daily basis I use iPhoto.

Thanks for the offer Cheryl, but it wasn't for any one particular thing. It was just because I hadn't gotten around to doing anything to try to recreate some of the photos that I lost when my other computer crashed.
