OT: Home carpet steamers and dogs

Anyone have one? Any advice? How about a small one for small stains?

Also - any recommendation for a great cleaner that gets up doggie erp? Jack and Belle seem to have caught the pooper equivalent of the stomach flu. . .

Yes, I have one as I have five cats and a dog and sometimes they're a bit messy -- one cat wolfs his food and brings it back up again and another is very, very elderly and sometimes doesn't make it to the litter box in time...

I believe I have a full sized Bissell and it works great. It's really loud and uses a lot of the cleaning fluid though and that stuff is expensive but it's worth doing the whole carpet every few months. In fact, you've reminded me that I should think about doing that this weekend. AFTER doing some stitching, of course!!

Cheers,

Someone on here suggested the Spot Bot by Bissell. I bought it and it is perfect for pets. Couldn't be easier. It does have a hose to cover slightly larger areas, but hell, I just run it twice, or thrice lol

BTW I never use anything in it, just hot water. My cat always throws up hairballs on the white bedroom carpet, NEVER EVER on the navy blue oriental rug in the livingroom.

Sounds like my Dad's cat - hairballs on the white bedspread only

Glad to see you here again.... C

I only spoke because Linda asked and I felt since I received the tip about the Spot Bot here, I should pass it on because it is great. I believe Little Bit gave me the recommend and I went straight out and bought one, never regretted it.

Now doubtless, I am being stupid and it is not at all what one should use, there is doubtless something far better and more effective and Spot Bot is quite the wrong thing to do but it works for me. OPMMV

In addition to the advice on cleaners, consider pet food without any artificial colors. Those tend to stain when they come back up.

That's very true, especially on white. The carpet cleaning man was the one who told me to use the Spot Bot without adding anything, just use hot water. He was saying that even with other machines, people tend to use too much 'stuff' and it compounds the problem because residue remains in the carpet.

Gross warning - I also find it is better to remove the pick uppable stuff immediately but for some strange reason the stains come out far better when they have been left to dry first.

Yes, we were in the process of changing over to all Iams, so Jack erped the last of the Beneful - with red coloring. Yuck. And as pointed out, the stuff we just scooped and then let dry seem to be cleaning better. (3:00 am is not when I am thrilled with cleaning - just get the worst of it up!)

The hot water only I hadn't heard - I will try that.

I like that Spotbot - I've also heard and seen a few good things about this Hoover (and it's about the same cost!):

I knew about the Hoover but I only have two carpets and am in a condo so the Bot was more convenient for me. What I really like about it is that it involves no effort to remove from closet, fill one tank with hot water, plug in making sure brush is over the usually smallish mark, set to either Set In Stain, or Light Stain, push Start and then let it go to it. It washes and scrubs, then rinses and removes moisture, then beeps to say Look, Done, Gone. Simply empty containers and put back in closet. Thank you Bot, good boy Bot lol

If you have a large carpet area, it might not be so handy for you.

I think they are genetically programmed to do that.

I think you are right as Bucket also liked to do that, right in the doorway - which makes it worse because it is a heavy wear area.

I think my Dad's cat likes to hide his just for the fun of watching someone trying to find what that stench is.

That could be worse - I also dislike waking in the dark of night to hear 'the sound' - small wonder I suppose that some people think people who have pets are crazy lol

Following Roberts Rules, I believe some one has to say "so moved". And then call for a vote?
