OT - Kirkwall Ba Game

The traditional Kirkwall Ba' Game is played with a hand-stitched ball. . On Christmas Day after a game lasting over 7 hours John Thomson has been held up as the winner of the 2012 Christmas day men's Ba' at the Shapinsay slip. The Christmas day pack moved the Ba' up and down Broad Street before it made its way down Albert Street, through the lane to Castle Street car park and down to the Odin Stone shop where a break was made to the police station car park. The Ba' then travelled across to the car park at the water front and was then moved down Ayre Road and to the mouth of the Shapinsay slip where it was pushed into the water at 8:12pm. After a hard fight in the water the scrum of around 20 Doonies lifted John Thomson as the winner at 8:38pm.
