OT: More on GeoBear

Hello Everyone, I got photos from Claudia in Spain (RCTQ) and have posted them to the GeoBear album. We even have one of him "helping" Claudia in her medical duties by riding around in her pocket!!! I need to go look at the e-mail Claudia sent and determine better just *where* her photos were taken and update that info at Webshots. Now, JOYCE in RSA, if you are reading this, will you please e-mail me? I can't find your e-mail telling me where your photos of GeoBear were taken. The are in the album at Webshots but it just says GeoBear in RSA for the two of him in the "wilds" and at School for the one with the kids. I would like to be a bit more precise than that!

GeoBear is a sort of world geography project for my granddaughter's (usually referred to as my SMDGD) first grade class. GeoBear is a small almost flat little bear that looks rather like a dog toy. Each child in the class was given a bear and told to send the bear to someone who would take photos of the bear and include them with a bit of commentary in a journal. When Raechel (the SMDGD) got her bear in September 2009, she sent him to her cousins in Santa Maria, CA. They sent GB to me just before Thanksgiving. I posted here and at RCTQ (quilting newsgroup) and asked if anyone would be interested in hosting GeoBear. I thought it would be fun to see where we could send him and he subsequently went to Australia, New Zealand, Rep. of South Africa, Israel, Spain and is currently in England! He needs to be back in Lizard Land (aka Phoenix) by early May so I'm not sure where all he will have time to visit once he leaves the UK. Outside the USA, I have volunteer hosts lined up for Germany, Sweden, Nova Scotia, Saskatchewan and Uruguay. Within the USA, hosts are in ND, OH, NH, MD, FL, LA and TX. For sure, GeoBear's last port of call will be my DSis in TX and he needs to be there by the first of May. Beyond that, I'll just let him travel where he can :-). I need to again thank everyone who has hosted GB and who has offered to host him. This is a great project and I know that DD gets online with the SMDGD to look at the photos of GB I have posted to his Webshots album. The whole class will have a great time learning about the different parts of the world where the bears have traveled. CiaoMeow >^;;^<

To branch off into more long-winded stuff - I have been minding my elder DD's whirling Dervish of a Dachsie pup. Hidiyeh hates me, and I don't blame her, I hate myself for doing it. Maybe it is peculiar to Dachsies and their elongated shape but this kangaroo (she is always bouncing) has pee pads - she is trained to go there but doesn't seem to get the hang of having her whole body on the thing, usually the operational part is NOT on the pad !!! I have booked the carpet cleaners for the day after she goes - arrrgh - Hidiyeh is as disgusted as I am - CATS RULE ! (Had to put that there for Fred!)

Well... if he has space in his itinerary, I am happy to host him here someplace along the way. :)

I doubt if there will be time ;-[ . It's already the Ides of March and that means only about 6 weeks left before he *must* be on his way to my DSis. It's looking like there will need to be a very truncated version of the stops along the way once back Stateside. Thanks so much for the offer. It's been a lot of fun getting all the photos posted so that everyone interested can see where he has been. CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Remember, dearest, the other (proper?) name for the UK is Great Britain.

Therefore, GB is currently in GB.

Um, was there any argument about this?? Maybe I missed it. If the bear was lucky he could go to England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales and still be within the United Kingdom. or Great Britain...whichever is your preference. Probably add the Isle of Man with their strange name ( I don't remember off hand).

You are BAD today -- bad Bad BAD == LOL. Just to be a bit more precise, GB is in Sittingbourne, Kent, UK and then will go to Stronsey, Orkney, UK.

There's the rub, Sheena -- Bruce doesn't mail to you! From Bruce, GB is supposed to go to Germany then Sweden THEN to you!!! That's why I am starting to kvetch at folks to make sure they send him on his way ASAP once he has had a photo or four taken of him!!! After you & Dawne, he is scheduled for NINE other hosts here in the lower 48 before going back to the SMDGD! I'm not so concerned that he make it to all of the hosts in the states but I REALLY would like for him to have made it to all of the other countries. I think that would be great for all the kids to learn, see, hear about once he is back in Lizard Land. CiaoMeow >^;;^<

If everyone could have done this, there would have been no problem in getting to all the hosts. Unfortunately, even tho' a lot of folks have kept him for only a few days, the postal travel time between countries has been a killer as far as the schedule is concerned. One way or the other, GB will get to see a lot more of the world than most of us ever will!! CiaoMeow >^;;^<
