Argggh just watched a forecast and Hannah is bugging Lucille now but is going to sweep up the coast bugging Brat and Cheryl and then on to us on Sunday. It's been Ark building time around here for more than a month. Where is that lummox Al Gore ?? I want some global warming, this global raining is driving me nuts.

If Hanna stays on it's present track it will bypass FL and we will only get problems from the edge of the storm. It looks like it will make landfall in NC.

Here's what I've been using to track it. It's pretty easy with this one:

That's what I meant, it is brushing past you dumping rain and although it will be more directly overhead here, it will have diminished to high winds AND rain, the gd rain again !

MIssing Fl or not, I'm keeping my preparations in place. Jugs of water, tons of ice in freezer, evac briefcase ready to grab and go.... I figure being prepared is like the umbrella on a sunny day. Andrew Survivor, 5 or 6 time evacuee Val

I keep everything ready to go up here too, have primus stove, lamps, plenty of spare batteries and radio and full tank for bbq, that makes prolonged power outages a little more tasty. Surprising the concoctions one can come up with when the freezer is melting out lol

Last time round with Juan I gave my primus to a couple with a bottle fed baby who were trying to heat up bottles on the bbq - while resisting a lecture about breast is best lol

I live among farmers. It doesn't matter what the weather forecast is, woe betide the weather reporter who opines that the weather is terrific! There is always some area of farmland that needs rain instead of sunshine, sunshine instead of rain, or a temperature 10 degrees warmer or cooler than whatever is being rejoiced in. This year, the harvest looks really good, high yields and high grade grain, but it has rained for the last 3 days on and off, and of course the farmers don't want the rain right now. Dawne

Do you (or anyone else who meets your discussion criteria) think McCain knew much about her before choosing her? Do you think his people thought she would pull the women's vote???

The day the announcement was made, CNN got 13,000 blog comments/e-mails, and (although the volume was too high for them to do an exact tally that quickly) it seemed to them that most of the comments from women were that we are insulted if he thinks that naming a woman, regardless of her positions, would be enough to get Hillary's voters to vote for him. My sentiments exactly -- while it's nice to have the option of voting for a woman, I do look at more than the candidate's plumbing before casting my vote.

Glad I had swallowed already, that last line needed a spew warning.

Since most stuff is in, I'm not going to worry too much yet. I have tomorrow to grab stuff out of the garden.

Frankly, I'm more worried about Ike....

I normally think farmers whine quite a bit but there is no denying looking at some Cape Breton farmers standing ankle deep in mud and water and the remnants of their crops around them, they can't even plough them under because machinery on the waterlogged soil would be damaging.

They said this morning that the particularly heavy rain last Sunday washed out many driveways, flooded many basements and has undermined

15 bridges which can't be repaired overnight, causing some to have very long detour drives - when gas is expensive.

Thankfully today we have a break and I am off to a cottage party down the south shore Bridgewater way, she is really lucky because the rain is back tomorrow and all weekend lol

Yes, Ike is taking the more traditional path that gives us a hammering. I always wonder at these hurricane names - yes - I know they are chosen quite a long time in advance but come on, awful names.

Can't you just hear the outcry if it was Hurricane Kelsey (locally VERY popular about 10-12 years ago).

They will get to it in another decade or two lol One can look the list of names up online, forget where, they are all putrid. If it does not develop to a full fledged hurricane, it will be recycled.

I know Margaret isn't here to correct me, but I think it is only hurricanes that don¹t cause destruction that have the name retired. So, if Ike stays out to sea, Ike gets recycled. But Katrina, Hugo etc will never make it back into the pot (so to speak).

I wonder if we'll see some of today's odder names make into the list.

PS aren't you glad you didn't have to deal with Hortense?

Unfortunately, a lot of women will vote for her, because she is female. It's sad, but true.
