OT - Visit to Washington, D.C.

One of my friends will be travelling to Washington next week. She and a bunch of ladies will be shopping and sightseeing while the husbands attend meetings. What are some *must-sees* or *dos* I could suggest to her?

There's way more to see in Washington then there's time to see it. They should just stop at a Visitor's Bureau desk, or the concierge in their hotel and they will be bombarded with a ton of information.

Among some of the more important (at least to me) places to visit is the Smithsonian, but to really see it all takes forever.

There are all the government buildings and monuments and tours and so on, and so on, ad infinitum. They might also want to go to Arlington and see the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown soldier. If they just want to shop and eat, there are great shopping centers and excellent choices for restaurants.

I'm sure if Ellice sees this, she will write a note pointing out all the more important to see and great places. It really is a visitor's paradise.

If they are on the Mall at lunchtime, I recommend the Mitisam Cafe in the Museum of the American Indian. The food is unique and quite tasty. And I love the US Botanical Gardens.

I forgot that lucky you, you live in that area too. I've been at the Botanical Garden but never at the Indian Museum and now I feel deprived. lol

I've got lots of info now from all of you (and the quilting group) and I thank you - my list is about a mile long now so I'll pass that on to her. Thanks so much everyone.
