OT: William and Kate.

I watched the docudrama about how William and Kate became a couple. Has it struck anyone else that Jane Austen wrote the script 200 years ago in Pride and Prejudice?

Rich and powerful man falls in love with ordinary girl.

Rich and powerful man thinks ordinary girl will marry him even though he is not prepared to change the way he lives.

Ordinary girl slaps down rich and powerful man, but good, and refuses to marry him.

Rich and powerful man realises that he loves ordinary girl even more, begs forgiveness, and promises to change the way he lives if only she will marry him.

Ordinary girl forgives him, and he behaves the way she wants.

And hopefully they live happily ever after.

Lovely story . . . if only real life can now emulate it! Great observation, Jim. Have a great day!

I feel positive about it.

Remember, Jim, when the Queen, then Princess Elizaberh, marrried Philip? He was active duty Navy, and she was the heir to the throne. They were lucky enough to have a year or two, on Malta, and she relished that experience.

I think Kate and William will do fine. Back in our era there was no TV, no immediate-media coverage...............it was more a civilised society.

I was never a fan of Diana, but I think she and Charles, in different ways, brought up two unique young men.

I wish them all the luck in the world!

Gill ( spent my 17th birthday watching the Queen's Coronation on TV.

Hopefully - at least they have an advantage over Jane Austen`s pair - they`ve been shacked up together for some time, so must know each other`s little foibles!

They may well be the breath of normality the monarchy needs.

I remember way back to WW2, and the current queen, (18 years old) DID work with the Womens Army Transportation Corps. So she did oil changes, and changed tires...but she was the first to work with the people. Her parents, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth went out and did hands on meetings and sympathy to those who were bombed. No secret service entourage either!! The fact she has lived so long has put Charles in a bad light.

The monarch does not resign. Period (unless you are Edward in love with a divorcee).

I think there is still hope for the Monarchy. I may piss people off, but the Monarch is the same to the UK citizens as the flag is to US citizens. They both represent the nation. One is breathing, the other isn't. That is why Americans are outraged when the Flag is desecrated..in England..don;t spit on the monarch.

Off the hobbyhorse, and back to the dishes.

From the mighty to the mundane
