Planning a dream trip-needlework related

Okay, here's the deal, my bff and I are planning a trip around the US next summer after she retires. In addition to the usual sights, we want to stop at as many LNS, and beading, and quilting, and book shops as we can. I have a van and we plan to only take a minimum of clothing. What shops are not to be missed. We are already planning to stop at Nordic Needle, Silver Needle, Caravan Beads and Fire Mountain Gems. We are open to suggestions. Also, if there are local sights not to be missed let us know.

Feel free to contact me privately as well.

You need to hear from Gillian - she has done that already several times and I know she keeps a list.

For huge quilt shops there's Keepsake Quilting in New Hampshire and Hancock's of Paducah in Paducah KY. I've never been to either store in person but from what I've heard they are definitely gigantic and awe inspiring.

For fantastic bargains on quality fabrics hit Lancaster County in Pennsylvania where there are dozens of Amish owned quilt shops.....

personal experience I can definitely recommend Zook's, Weaver's Dry Goods, Sauder's, and The Old Country Store. My stash definitely expanded after that trip! lolHave fun! Jeri

well, you could head over to ABC Stitch Therapy in Grantham NH and I'll arrange as big a gathering of the New England crew of RCTN as I can manage. And you have to do the Kancamagus Highway while you're this way.

When you get close to Fire Mountain Gems (the one in Grants Pass, OR?) send me a note and I can send you to the two local shops. One, in Grants Pass, is called Unique Lee Yours. Another, in Medford, is the Middleford Yarn Shoppe. If you end up going up I-5, there is a place called Mimi's. I hear that it has a wonderful selection but is pretty pricey. Crater Lake is worth a visit if you have enough time and, if our local EGA Chapter is having a stitch in or a meeting, you and your friend would be more than welcome to come. We have a really great group of women and have lots of fun together. If you end up going north as far as Portland, Acorns and Threads is a great shop to visit. OH! You might also enjoy a Harry & David tour, in Medford, if you like chocolate. :-)

Are you planning to go all around? Seen you're getting lots of great suggestions. If you're in Lexington, KY - M's Canvas House is really lovely, and Meredith - the owner - is awesome.

If you're heading to the DC area, there are some great needlework and quilting shops. In the DC metro area of Northern VA & Montgomery Cty, MD - as well as Baltimore & its 'burbs, plus a shop in DC. Also, very good knitting shops. Quilting shops - there are some good ones, but there is the fabulous family owned G-street Fabrics - in Arlington, VA & Rockville, MD (VA is a bit better), also a good quilting shop just near The Stitching Post in Catonsville, MD ('burb of Baltimore). And we do have some fine bead shops.

There are several of us on this group from the DC/Baltimore area - so be sure to get in touch.

If you're doing NJ - The Edwardian Needle in northern NJ is a great shop - particularly if you do canvas work.

Sounds like lots of fun.
