Problem: Choosing lettering for sampler - plz advise

I'm designing a wedding sampler in ndlpt. It will read

Carolyn and Bob

6 -12 - 2011

(centered of course)

I'd like to make the 'and' in smaller, different style letters, but fear it will clash with the 'a' in Carolyn. The names I want larger, and different style letters.

Would you a. use the same lettering and style size? or b. use smaller and diff. lettering for the 'and' and accept the clash?

Or is there another option I'm missing? Ampersand maybe? I don't want to make the thing too big overall.

Thanks.

What if you used the same font, only italicised the 'and' as well as making it smaller?

You could, for example, cross stitch the names and date in the font of your choice, but backstitch the 'and', perhaps in three or even four strands to give it a bit of weight. Try it on a doodle cloth and see what looks best.

what about a Different color ? you also could use the fact that Both names have an O in the middle and design with this crossing the names over the middle O mirjam

Well, I've already laid it out in pencil on graph paper, but I don't like the change of 'font' for the 'and' because of that 'a' so close to the a in her name. And I don't want to blow up the names too much

- the thing could get bigger than I like.

What about option a. vs. option b? That was my real question.

Kinda hard to italicize in needlepoint without making it into a bedsheet size, if you get my drift. I think I want this in ndlpt completely with no backstitching, but I'll keep your idea in mind.

The lettering will be in one color, the border in something contrasting. I should have used the real names - ha. There really is no O in her name.

I'm rethinking this whole thing. Someone told me she thought the personalized sampler was a cheesy idea. I should have told all of you

- the couple is far from young and certainly not first marriage for either. The bride is moving into his house ( picture as very masculine) and her MOH told me she is not into decorating and will make do with his colors, which are prob. in the brown family, she thought. My other choice is to do a small floral, UNpersonalized in any way, and she can stick it on an odd wall. I might be able to work the date into it, if room permits. I may be doing my old standby magnolia blossom.

What do you think about the personal sampler vs. the small floral under these circumstances? I just want to make her something as a wedding gift, and not just buy a gift card.

This is probably a better idea. Can you find someone who can give you a real good picture of the grooms style of decorating and actual colors? As you know, "brown" covers soooo much territory!

I don't think a personalized sampler is cheesy at all! Much better than a generic piece that could have been made for anyone. I like the idea of their names on it. I do a sampler for close friends when they marry and the writing includes: House of " " (last name), Established " " (date of marriage) and then include a Bible verse or a line or two of poetry I think they will like.

I love the idea of a really simple style sampler.

How but something under the flower arranged however looks best to you

There area some really nice smaller alphabets out there - in backstitch that aren't more than 3 stitches high and 2 wide!

Yes - what I had in mind is either a border of tiny flowers top and bottom or a simple design around the four edges - tiny Greek key or sumthin. I don't want it to look too girlie, tho.

I have a whole booklet of alphabets and numbers I use.

The person who said this is a younger gal who is prob. more into piercings and tattoos, IYKWIM.

Much better

Wow - that's more than I have time to tackle. The wedding is actually in April. Ha - I'm not even sure I'm invited, but if not, I still want to give her something.

The MOH has seen the house and their room. Told me to stick to beiges, but she doesn't know what I plan to make. I'd still like to do it in her wedding colors, as a memory of the day.

By the way, the magnolia is NOT looking good - I think I'll just finish it for myself as I already have an frame for it. Found in a thrift shop.

Embroider the flowers as you wanted and work the Date into the flowers , might make a very special gift mirjam

Not a bad idea - I'll try to work it out on paper first. Thanks.
