I thought I'd get cute and use up a lot of leftover black tapestry wool for a ndlpt project as background. I ran out of one batch and started another. AGH - there are more shades of black than are dreamt of...... Now - do I tear out the whole background, buy a ton of new and restitch? Or do I try to match either one of the other of the black I have? I have no shade numbers or brand names. It could be a wild goose chase.
I hate to think of tearing out many hours of work, but.....I want it to look decent.
I'm not sure if this would work with tapestry thread (depends on how "separateable" the strands are) but if you have some of both left (or just pull out enough to have a few strands of each), separate the strands and blend the two colors together. Then you might be able to get away with a few rows of one black blending into another.
I feel your pain. Waaay back in the 70s when I was first starting with ndlpt, I was working on a floral wreath design (done in typical 70s colors!) on a brown background. Not knowing any better (and no rctn around to ask!) and wanting the piece to stay as straight as possible, I did the background in basketweave stitch, rather than the called-for continental. Well...who knew that BW used so much more thread than Cont'l? I ran out of brown about half way through. Sent a chunk of the thread (wool) to the company to see if they had more. They sent back some polyester blend (shinier) that didn't really match color-wise, either. :(
The piece is still unfinished and will most likely remain so. I should just throw it away.

Sorry, but there's no variation - just a very noticeable line of demarcatio n where I ended one shade and started the other. I'm tearing out all that n ow - must be a few thousand stitches and am not happy. I should've known b etter and noticed sooner. Any tips of easier was to tear out? I've used t iny scissors and am going to experiment with a seam ripper. Hope I don't c ut the canvas.
I still haven't located any black - need to make a special trip or send for it and don't want to chance something by mail and have IT not match.
