Seeking crazy quilt motif designs

I have an idea for a themed crazy quilt and I need some examples of cross designs. I am specifically looking for an image that incorporates a cross and and shepherd's crook. Or if you have any ideas on other symbology that represents the idea of "The Lord is my shepherd," I would love to hear them. I am trying to design a crazy quilt that will be the entire 23rd Psalm, with a block for each key image or idea. I know I want to piece a block of just green scraps with flowers embroidered on it for the green pastures part, and I have ideas for a couple of the other lines. Any suggestions would be welcome. In some ways, googling something like this turns up too many hits to wade through, so I thought I'd ask my girls at RCTN.

In other news, I am back to stitching on "Zippy's Favorite Flavor" by Terrance Nolan. I've only been working on it since 1997--literally. Bit of advice--when doing a enormous piece, always buy twice as much floss as you anticipate needing. Dye lots are crucial. Some the ladies here saved my tail by helping me find some purples that matched the ones I had already started with. I think Zippy is actually going to use more than a full skein of a couple of shades. That is a lot of purple! He is going to be gorgeous when I finally finish him.

It is raining and raining and raining here in Indiana. Water is now standing on the roads. I think I am going to take photos of the puddles in my yard so I have a good record of the low spots in my garden! Need to move that rhubarb before it rots!

Am still on the job hunt. Have a good lead on a bank lending position that I hope will pan out. It would be ideal for me--great use of my experience and a great way to learn some key skills.

The kids are doing great. I do want to know, however, how a 2 yr old just knows where the deepest puddle is...

Have a great weekend! JennyWren

Hmm - let me think. I know I've seen a symbol library someplace......

Yes - on all accounts. I had a chart that called for an overdye "white" that varies a lot between lots. Fortunately, I used one skein for the fence, one for the sign and two more of the edge and the differences aren't noticeable until I look hard....

Great idea, but can rhubarb rot?

Is it hardwired in the brain from when we were fish. Water is good, deep water is better..

We've done the same ornaments at our church (ironically, also Ascension Lutheran, but this one is in Maryland). The patterns are by "Designing Women", and they have several books/pamphlets. I saw them as recently as a couple of weeks ago at the Stitching Post in Catonsville.

Here's the NN link for the chart:

Go to the catalog, search by designer under "D" for "Designing women" and you'll get the whole list. HTH!

The crazy quilt sounds like a lovely idea! Sue
