So what have you finished so far this year?

It's half way through the year, and time to take stock before Xmas throws us all into a dither. How many projects have you completed and what is your favorite project so far, finished or unfinished?

So far, all I've finished is a crazy quilt chicken pincushion, and my favorite project is Elian McCready's Iris Panel, even though I haven't worked on it in weeks.

Knitting has waylaid me. I've made several felted purses and am absolutely addicted. (The pattern I use is a freebie. (It's available at

Look in the archives for the design "Sophie". --No affiliation, just really happy with the design.) I also just (this weekend) finished my first sweater. It needs a bit of altering but that's within my ability. Am already plotting my next knitting project.I've also finished a few small stitching items, mostly Mill Hill kits. Karen E., also preparing for Webelos camp. Does that count as a project?

Hmm....mind boggles trying to remember.....

So far this year I have finished Quaker Sampler by Workbasket, several knitting projects, St Sylvestre by Long Dog Samplers and Cinderella by Mirabilia.

Sometimes I wish the tiny projects appealed (tiny being 4" x 4" in my own personal dictionary), because I could rack up finishes sooooo quickly if they did! lol

hmmm what have I finished? Love & Wisdom by Drawn Thread (this is GORGEOUS! I got the pattern and special sparkly fabric from silkweavers as a secret sister gift!) This one is for ME :) I'm going to enter it into our local "Ex" this year. I have also done a few models for monsterbubbles, finished "Lizzie Borden" from monsterbubbles for myself...working on finishing June's Pearl Fairy (Mira) for my mom. - OH and I am *almost* finished Jeanette Douglas' Bug Collector. I have also done some smaller pieces but all of them escape me right now LOL!

I am hoping to try rug hooking in the not so distant future, as well as maybe take a beginner's knitting course at the Needlework Show that is coming to Moncton next month. I've always wanted to learn how to knit - my mom tried to teach me when I was little but I am left handed, she is righthanded - therefore she bought me the stuff to teach myself cross stitch LOL!

I haven't finished any yet this year. I only just got around putting up other stuff I've finished in past years (and that's not all, by far):

what is your favorite project so far, finished or unfinished? Right now I'm doing a wedding sampler for my friend who got married FIVE YEARS AGO. I decided not to frame it, so it's gonna hang like a bellpull finished with hardanger.

Well.. I've started more than I've finished, and all my finishes come under that small category, but I've done an Indigo Rose pincushion, a Britty Kitties cat/frog design, a pink girlie birth announcement thing that I thought was going to kill me, a Workbasket design book mark. I've started some big stuff, but I'm nowhere near getting any of it done. For me, that I've gotten even this much done is almost a miracle! It's taken me a long time to get back to where I do enjoy stitching again, but it's so hard to make that trade off .. stitch or read.. ??

What Tegan isn't telling you is that she didn't have the urge to stitch for ages..I mean YEARS here...so this sudden list of stuff she's finished is just amazing, really!

It's not often I can contribute to a tread about finishes, as I'm a much better starter than a finisher, but I have had a few this year. In March I finished Angel of the Morning, next stitched Indigo Roses' My Son, a neat kit by Old Colonial Designs that covered a mini tape measure and the first two panel of Gay Ann Roger's Pattern's for my Needle. Now I need to get back to my Ukrainian Openwork GCC that NEEDS to be finished by September.

So far this year I have a small snowman ornament on plastic canvas done in time to pack away with the tree and ornaments. Just finished a set of 4 napkins for my daughter's teacher's gift, had each child in the class sign and then went over the signatures in chain stitch with variegated thread. Also finished crocheting a baby blanket for my newest niece. (so she was born in February and this is June...at least she'll still get some use out of it.)

I've been spending way too much time playing Final Fantasy XI Online lately but the stitching is starting to call me back. Maybe I'll knit this fabric purse kit my daughter picked up then decided was too complicated for her to do.

I have finished the revision of my book "Elegant Hardanger Embroidery" and it should be back from the printers by the end of the week. I'm rather excited about it, not least because it has a new cover which is much nicer than the first edition!

I have finished a merezhka table runner, a merezhka bag, a set of four blackwork Christmas decorations, a mini Mountmellick doily, a Hardanger bag, a Hardanger bookmark, a merezhka bookmark, a beaded handbag, and another Mountmellick doily. I think that's all - I *hope* that's all!

But I still have my Beth Russell Woodpecker tapestry calling to me... :-)

So far, just two small hardanger suncatchers, a dragon dreams ornament (the one that says "My Treasure") (Does it count if the cross-stitching is done, but it's not assembled?), another ornament of a tea shop from one of the "country"-style magazines earlier this year (Feb issue? had a whole village's worth of storefronts - bookstore, quilt shop, herb shop, etc.), and 99.8% done on the "I Saw Three Ships" ornament from last year's JCS ornament issue.

Gee, if you'd waited about two weeks to ask, I could probably say, "Marriage of Minds". I'm closing in on the end...finished the names, most of the way through the last band, now I have to go back and do the bits and pieces of some of the earlier bands - background fills, backstitches, etc. I'm at the point that it's getting really exciting again and I hate to put it down! And I may actually have it framed in time for their first anniversary in August!
