Thanks for the Firehouse Angel

Captain Michael Parks of Ladder Company 14 in New York called earlier today. After we apologised to each other for communication delays on both our parts, he told me that the effort to create the Firehouse Angel is greatly appreciated and how very beautiful she is. It was decided that her permanent home should be in an office area in his fire station that houses Battalion 12 headquarters rather than in a downtown building where she might not stand out among the many other tributes that have been sent to the Fire Department. When he said that he expects the Angel to watch over them now, I lost it.

Everyone -- people who stitched, people who contributed financially, people who watched on the sidelines cheering others on, people who created a web site, people who started the project and people who ended it -- should be very proud. if I've left any people out.

If anyone feels the need to once again debate the whys and the wherefores of this project, please, please, please start a new thread and let this 'thank you' stand alone.

Ok. I was confused to begin with when Anne wrote the message, but I thought, "well, you can't keep things straight anyway, so just let it be." But now I'll ask: I thought Heather and *Linda* made the presentation! Where does Anne fit into this? I just want to get the website straight. And, of course, it would be nice to keep my head straight, as well.

Hi Dianne, Linda and I did deliver her, but I believe it was Anne who made the first contact with FDNY. Are you in Tennesee Anne? We kept being asked which one of us was from TN. The firetruck the photos were taken in front of is the one that was donated by people in Tennesee. I still get goosebumps thinking about it, and the respect and deference shown the angel amazed me. Every single firefighter who walked into the lunchroom stopped and took a moment to look at her, and then invariably too lean in really close to have a good look. Heather

You're right, of course, and I (obviously!), didn't check the names. sigh. I see that Heather has responded and cleared things up!!! Sorry for confusing you, Dianne.

Thanks for sharing this. I can find no words to express my feelings on being involved in this and then hearing of the firefighters' response.......

Heather in NY said

Yep, I'm in Tennessee and have almost totally lost my NY accent ;-)

I asked Tia Mary if anyone had knew someone in the FDNY or had volunteered to find someone in the FDNY that would listen to the story of the Firehouse Angel and help find her a home. When she said that no one had volunteered for this task, I took it on. Luckily for us, the local newspaper special events coordinator had maintained a relationship with the ladder company and had Captain Parks' phone number.

Oh, goody. There you are. One last question:

Was Captain Parks there for the presentation? Where was she presented? I'd just like to polish that off. I have the picture of the Harlem truck but no idea exactly where this is located.

And was I EVER glad Anne offered to take on this onerous task! I had absolutely NO desire or energy to do this so her offer was a true blessing! She got the info needed and stuff tentatively set up with Suzanne (she's the events coordinator at the FDNY). All I had to do was act as the initial e-mail "clearing house" between Suzanne, Heather & Linda :-)))! Thanks again Anne -- I couldn't have made that last mile without you!! CiaoMeow >^;;^<
