I know what you mean about substituting but I agree with Sheena.
Although if you're trying to design something, then color might be better. Then you'd get to decide...does this teal go with the blues or the greens? It would be pretty to look at, if nothing else.
I know! Get 2 sets of floss and do one set each way! :)
Shakespeare's Peddler used to have a color family chart. Her site is now an ebay store :( BUT here's a chart of the color families I found.
