time for a round of "what are you reading"

For me

Three or more rejects in the pile to go back to the library - didn't make it past 50 pages on any of these

Just finished Amanda Hocking's series - Switched, Torn and Ascend. Interesting plot and characters - really could have been one longer book, but since it is aimed at the YA audience, I understand the length.

The Peach Keeper - Sara Addison Allen. Just go read it. Just go read anything from her. She's that good.

Started the latest Chicagoland Vampire book from Chloe Neill. I did swear I'd give up all things paranormal, but this it series is so good.

Working on Melanie Rawn books - I had been afraid she'd be too fluffy of a fantasy read, but I'm liking The Dragon Prince a lot.

Currently reading "Nothing Daunted" by Dorothy Wickenden, editor of the New Yorker. It's the story of two women, one her grandmother, who go to teach in a small school in rural northwestern Colorado in 1916. They are "society" girls with a Smith education but no experience in teaching.

LOL - where's Margaret? I happen to know she has a copy in hand with an autograph. He was in Burlington MA last week. I'm awaiting my turn with the library copy.

I had to ask Margaret why she was in line so early for a wristband, and why she was in line so late in the day LOL

I really do not read very much anymore .This durned machine takes up a lot of stitching and reading time.

Additionally I have not told my cleaning lady we are back. I know I have to fire her...but I hate doing that. She is a great cleaner..but gossips, talks incessantly, cannot handle money, so asks for an advance..which she does follow through with. She is totally anal about cleaning..and will spend two hours cleaning the shower she just cleaned a couple of weeks a go,. Nevertheless, we aRE not COMPATIBLE. lol

I started reading the J A Jance Beaumont series. I enjoyed the Joanna Brady books, so tried these. I dipped into one way back, and it did nothing for me. Now I have restarted from the first book..and if I miss an odd one the characters are still evolving. I like cop mysteries for relaxing, as you have probably gathered.

Serious reading I have not done for about three years, when I was very interested in the lives of women in an Islamic (Sharia) society. I had reason, and learned a lot.

I've got Brandon Mull's "Beyonders" - YA fantasy. It took me awhile to get into it, but now I'm enjoying it. I love his "Fablehaven" series.

Next up: The new James Bond novel by Jeffery Deaver (Carte Blanche). I like Deaver's mysteries, so I'm willing to give this one a try, although I have reservations about taking James Bond out of the 60s milieu and making him an anti-terrorist....

(Why not just start a new character from scratch?)

I also have "Three Seconds" on my pile - has anyone read this? Another Scandinavian thriller. Is it good?

My daughter got her book signed on Tuesday. Son and I saw him read and got to have him sign books back in 2005 at the National Book Festival on the Mall.

You're daughter may have seen me. I was first in line in the morning for the wrist bands, and towards the front in the afternoon to get my book signed. Ironically I'm not reading that book yet. I'm reading Rite by Tad williams and plan on strating the George R.R. Martin this weekend. -Margaret in MA

He only did two on the East coast and is not scheduled to do anymore on the east coast this year, and his schedule for the next two years that he posted doesn't have him on the east coast until 2013 and that's in Washington D.C. That's why I stood in line on a very hot day to get it.

I wonder if I saw her?

You may very well have talked to her as I believe she was in line before the store opened. Brownish hair, glasses if she wasn't wearing her contacts. Was there with a tall, dark handsome friend (not her boyfriend, a friend friend.)

I got there at 5 and she wasn't in the first 10 of us that were there before 7am, so no I didn't see her.

The signings aren't what's keeping him from writing it's all the time he's spending on the set of HBO to make sure it stays on track. Part of me was hoping they wouldn't renew the series even though it a goodseries for that reason, but they are planning on the next season. He mentioned that his hope is to have one season for each book. Errrrrrr.
