Time to call it a day I feel.

Having lurked in several newsgroups for many many moons and popping above the parapet now and again, often with a different hat on, I have decided to call it a day with several of the newsgroups I have been subscribing to, among them being,

free.uk.talk.ipswich - Never any news from Ipswich or the surrounding area except for articles about Pete Turthill's pathetic ongoing war with IBC.

uk.local.east-anglia - As above but also suffering from terminal cross posting; I thought the idea was to have articles of local relevance, not stories from Cumbria or some twat from God knows where showing us his Photoshopped knob.

uk.legal - What should be a source for legal advice and debates has degenerated into a playground full of faux middle-class, self opinionated anti-establishment types.

What time I have been devoting to usenet I am going to channel into groups more in line with my hobbies, rather than topical or allegedly geographically local groups. Perhaps I'll see some of your names appear in the photography and/or computer newsgroups in the future. I wish you all good luck and good health, and may your Dog go with you.

Mike, dyslexic agnostic.

Are there any newsgroups specifically for wankers then, Mike?

Give me a dog any day! The crossposting doesn`t particularly bother me (which is obvious - I hardly ever remember to check on that), but I am sick of the continuous Turdheap wars, which get nowhere apart from giving him a bit of notoriety - which he patently enjoys. Then there`s the current spate of religious nutters. Anything new and comparatively sensible gets ignored, so I can understand how you feel.

I belong to a "hobby" group, and apart from the occasional spat, it`s great and we`ve all made several real friends. I`ve had visiors from Canada, America and Australia in the past couple of years and all have been successful meetings, although I know you have to be careful! I`ve known all of them via the newsgroup and Email for many years though, so you get a fair idea of how they think

Good luck to you too!
