Thank you Donna - that is a new to me blog and it looks like a keeper.

some day - most likely post college days for offspring, I will make it down there to see Woodlawn. There is just nothing like it up here.

Next year would be a good time. It'll be the 50th anniversary and I'm betting there will be lots of entries.

LOL - thanks for the extra mention. Melita writes a pretty nice blog. We had met in Philly when I was there with the ANG BOD for our meeting, and checking out the Seminar hotel (which is quite nice, with comfy chairs for the classes) - shameless plug.

Melita's DH was the perfect companion on her trip to Woodlawn - and this woman actually took notes as she went through the exhibit, asked questions, etc. The NOVA ANG chapter was docenting that day, IIRC, but I'd demo'd a couple of days earlier. Demo'd again - and docenting with our EGA chapter on Saruday.

There are some really fab things there this year - the beaded sticks, Catherine Jordan's maps, Kay Stanis' modern take on Japanese Embroidery goldwork. I personally fell for an amazing portrait of someone's dog - the fave is incredible - I think it's a foxhound of some type - I answered Melits -the whiskers are done in horse hair (another clue to the breed) - the dog is so well done, with padding under the stitches -you just want to reach out and pet him. It's a truly nice exhibit, running the full gamut. A lot of smalls - many boxes, the kind you buy - and then stitch - sort of like jewelry things - with gold edging - not big. Some lovely smocking. And of course canvas work - Donna's pink & blue Stars of the New Millenium. I really also liked our friend Arlene's "Scott Lee" from Jean Hilton done in Lavendar. And of course Amanda's Stars in the Halloween brights. And some fabulous bright green & white very graphic original piece from Jeff Kulick. Nice downstairs hallway of Samplers.

All in all it's a great show.

Woodlawn Plantation is off of Route 1 in Alexandria, Virginia.

Unfortunately, yesterday was the last day for the show this year.

But it'll be back next year in time to celebrate the big 5-0. It should revert to its normal schedule and will be held the entire month of March.

I think the bets are on as to whether or not it really will be on time next year. It was delayed this year because the windows in the house were being changed. The UV protection had really worn off, and amongst other reasons were due to be repaired, replaced. So, the show was delqyed. Hopefully, the other side of the house will be completed so that it can be held in the normal time frame next year. It was definitely quite warm upstairs this year being later in the year! The staff made a valiant effort, as did the volunteers, to keep shutters cycled with the sun, and fans upstairs, etc so that people could see the fabulous work on display, and nothing would be affected by the sun on the side which didn't have the new windows, and people wouldn't suffer too dreadfully with the heat.

It's a lovely show - worth a visit for sure!
