Glazing Pyrex Bowls

Hi Group I must confess I do not know the first thing about pottery and ceramics so I am at your mercy. Question. Is it possible to change the color of a pyrex bowl by spraying it with a glaze? Best Regards Dave

I would guess off hand no - at least not in the typical way we think of glazing. The first obstacle I see is getting the glaze to stick to the glass and then you would have to get a glaze that melted at a lower temperature than the glass. You might find a very low fire luster, decal or the like and possibly get away with it but that is going to be something on top of your current coloring. I have no idea how a luster or low fire design would stand up to the wear and tear that a functional piece gets but I would not bet on it. Also it is not really going to change the color of the piece. They do have glass paints but I don't think those would work for anything you wanted to put in the oven or used for the kitchen. They would be entirely decorative.

So what I just gave was B.S. and not an informed opinion. Should we ask why you want to do this and exactly what you have in mind? A new Pyrex bowl would be far less expensive than the cost of firing it if you could get away with it.

i guess if you wanted to or had to change the apearance, you could sand blast the bowl. frost the surface a bit.
